In Cubase Studio 4 (MacOSX) the B4II FX PlugIn doesn't work. I get no sound, in the Insert and Send. In ProTools 7.3 & Logic Express 7 everything works fine. Has someone find a solution?

I'm using Cubase 4.0.3 (not Studio), and it is working fine there. I don't remember if there was a problem with earlier versions. What version of Cubase 4 Studio do you have?

The funny thing is: The plug *does* work in Cubase SL 3 (as FX)! However, then again there is no valid registration (although I registered everything), thus it all works only in Demo Mode, duh!
And: the corresponding Audio Unit plug works also (as FX), just tested it in Apple's "Au Lab" included in the Developer Tools.
    Vvvery strange....

    Hi Guys,

I have just tried this in Cubase 4 and it works fine, so it looks like it must be a studio problem.

May be worth you posting on the Steinberg forum.

    Cheers

Looks like the problem is symmetric: it is both a NI and a Steinberg problem. There seem to be differences between Cubase 4 and Cubase Studio with respect to VST plugins that should not exist: hence it is a Steinberg problem, so yes someone gotta tell em! The plug should be usable in both types of host: hence it is also a NI problem. I as a Cubase Studio user am not interested in why my plug works in Cubase 4, I simply expect from NI to make it work in MY host, which is a standard one. If there is a bug in Cubase Studio then why do other NI products run? For example, try Absynth as an FX, it works.

I was not apportioning blame, I just thought it was a good idea to post on the Steinberg forum as somewhere there may have the answer.

    me too

Same thing is happening to me too. I talked to NI on the phone and they did some research by talking to Steinberg and there is indeed some sort of Cubase 4/Intel Mac/Leopard/B4IIFX issue. They are trying to put pressure on Steinberg to issue a fix and told me to call back periodically to see if they've made any progress...

Now I purchased Cubase 4 (full version) and .. duh! Still no sound with the B4 FX. Got the latest versions (Cubase 4.5.2 and B4 2.0.4). Why does it work with some people's system (vic_france, BobTheDog) and with others not?

Yes I've upgraded to Cubase 4 (4.5.2) now. But the bug still remains. No sound with B4 II FX. I'm on MacBook Mac OS X 10.4.11.

I have a MacBook and an iMac (both Intel) running the latest MacOS 10.5.6. Both systems have the same problem.

I can merely recommend trashing Preferences (both for Cubase and for B4 II. In the case of Cubase, also remove any Preferences from earlier versions (e.g. SX3) otherwise Cubase 4 will simply try to reimport them instead of building new Preferences from scratch)

Not in the habit of resurrecting zombified posts but this is still a problem for me with C5.1.0 and the latest NI B4 II Fx and a brand new Mac Pro. It's never, ever worked for me as an insert, neither has FM8Fx.
So this is not just a version of Cubase problem. It's an NI issue.
My Windows friend doesn't have the issue. So, me and my expensive Mac ain't going nowhere with this.
Can someone at NI reposed to this post?
    Cheers

I don't think Preferences has anything to do with it. It has never worked on any version of Cubase I've owned on a Mac, that's SX3, 4 and 5... Any ideas anyone?

    To Vic_France

    Hello,
I know how to set everything up, inserts sends but I get stuck when trying to route the audio through the b4?

Could you tell me please how to set this up, I mean is there something on the b4's
interface I should connect/press/engage, link_routing option or something?

I've been through it like a fine tooth pick and comb but cant see a switch or knob anywhere, to invite the audio in....

Does it need a midi note on trigger or something ? ?

Would be great if you could advise me

    thanks Vic,

    Mory.

I own Komplete 5 and have just tested all instruments as effect plugins with Cubase 5. Everything else is working, Absynth-FX, FM8-FX, Pro53-FX, but B4 II FX does not work. No sound, silence.
However, as an AU in Logic Express 8 and Ableton Live, B4 II FX works!
And now what's really funny: B4 II FX works in Ableton Live not only as an AU but also as a VST!
Thus: B4 II FX does not work if and only if it is used
    1) in Cubase AND
    2) on the Mac Platform.
It has in this combination never worked and will most probably never ever work, because NI is quite obviously not interested in making it work.
    And that's a shame, period.

Here's an email I sent to my friends recently about a solution for using NI instruments as FX.

    --------------------------

    Guys,

    After some research and posts...

Some of these NI Insert FX don't work like the manuals say.

Since there is no more support, and they're relegated as Legacy officially, I figured it seems they just had to do something as they're always appearing on the Cubase Insert list.

Well, on the Mac the B4 II FX only works if you use it through Kore 2 on an FX slot, on Windows it works immediately as an Insert. It is a no-show on Mac unless wrapped through Kore.
It's a bug that will never be fixed on Mac, but at least Kore users have a workaround. Now Mac Users we can use the Leslie, the Verb, the Valve and the Amps on anything.

The FM8FX has an Effects folder in its browser, so call that up within the plugin and off you go.

The Pro-53 is another story. Make a track with a drum loop for 16 bars or whatever. Insert PRO-53 FX it and play a note. No sound. Add a MIDI channel and route the output to the track of interest.
Now, make a Note On instruction by drawing one in or playing it in (if playing, Record Enable or Monitor the MIDI track, Record Enable if wanna Record or Retrospective Record your performance, of course.
You'll get the Pro-53 playing like it's an Instrument, like, Prophet sounds.
Go to Pro-53 MIXER panel and turn down OSC A & B and NOISE. Turn up the EXT IN knob (found under NOISE). Play the keys and fiddle with the FILTER and DELAY EFFECT.
Of course, you'll have to reset the mixer as above each time you change a preset. My fave to see it all working in Nitro, with it's slow tempo mapped filter sweep and delay, makes any Bucket Of Sh!t drum loop sound like Armin van Buuren.

    ---------------------------

    Thanks Lenners.
    Thanks Jase.

    How to set this up?

Is there some knob or switch on the interface to invite the audio in, does it need a midi trigger ?

    Thanks
