    Hi,

Long time Kontakt 2 user. Recently installed Komplete 5 and the Applications/Kontakt 3 folder only contains 2 folders, "Documentation" and 'Video Tutorials" and the app itself. No Presets folder.

When I launch Kontakt 3 I can't load any presets for anything of course. I tried reinstalling Kontakt 3 but no joy there.

Surely this isn't normal. I suppose I could copy my K2 preset folder over to K3, but wouldn't K3 have come with new presets and scripts anyway?

Can someone tell me what's in their Kontakt 3 folder?

Hi - this is a "known issue" with the Komplete 5 installer and a fix is supposed to be coming "soon".

Is this part of what's going to be fixed in the impending K3.0.1 update? I didn't see this issue mentioned in any specific terms. Anyone from NI or the Kontakt moderators have any information on this? Thanks.

Thanks Knight. Always good to know it's not me.

I would think that the folders could be offered as a download from NI's site quite easily. I hesitate to check for updates using the Service Center app since I have everything pretty much working now. I'm so frightened to use that app now.

The preset folder won't be located there anyways. On Windows, it's at

    C:/Program Files/Common Files/Native Instruments/Kontakt 3/Presets

    and on Mac:

    Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Kontakt 3/Presets

Note that on a Windows machine the preset folder is always on your system drive, no matter what drive the app itself is on (with my machine, the app itself's on my E drive). The instrument presets are with the rest of the library, though.

Thanks ew - so, should we expect to get these missing presets in the coming K3 update? Seems logical to expect this, but I try not to assume anything these days. :p

Hi, it is interesting to hear people say that they are scared to make changes to their set up, in the sense of 'never change a running system'.
Sadly nowadays it seems generally accepted that it is more uncommon that NI software *does* run smoothly than the opposite as it should be. Which is a pitty.
Anyway, I have similar problems, no presets (.nki files) are installed, whatever I tried. The set up program does not accept any of the kontakt 3 library discs, and hangs if it asks to insert disc number X... I hope that they will fix this.
I cannot understand that NI is aware of the problem but refuses to offer a zipped file with all .nki's to the registered users who have problems installing these! This would be the fastest and simplest solution...

    good luck

    Hi ew,
this is true for the .nkp files, but what is missing are the .nki files in my case!
so I have 33 Gb of sounds but not a single instrument to play with, and I don't want to manually rebuild 1000 patches myself...

As I said, the .nkis are in with the normal sample library. And, as has been stated, somehow the K5 installer forgot those.

Henning said there will be an update/patch to fix this; when I don't know. I (like most of the mods) don't work for NI; I'm a user like you are.

    Hi Bee West -

I have a feeling some of the info in this thread might help.

    http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55254

If you've already pointed your K3 app to your K3 library location in preferences, and tried to rebuild your data base and still can't find any .nki's to load - I'm almost certain this thread has at least some clue to point you toward a fix.

If you have a blank field in your options>search/DB tab - I guess this is a bug and starting at post #6 in that linked thread there may be some helpful info (hopefully).

Yes it is. It's also why this stuff is seemingly branded now with the reputation "Not for Professional Use". NI may get there, but they're probably still suffering growing pains in the software engineering group. I know how it is, the senior guys get to develop new apps and features while the junior engineers get to write installers and attempt to fix compatibility issues. These types of problems we're having always get allocated to the bottom rung of the food chain. That's why they take so long to fix and often aren't right even after an update.

But I'm not losing faith. I think they'll get there. Sometimes it just takes a change in philosophy, or an improvement in communications between marketing, engineering and customer service. Those things take time to change.

    Hi Knight,
    thanks for your help, appreciated!
Unfortunately it did not bring me further:
in my case the problem is not that I can not see the instrument presets in the database, the problem is more that there are no (.nki) presets at all....
