As I posted in your other thread, you should NOT attempt to try to migrate an existing installation from one PC to another. Since different hardware is involved, NI software will "see this" as a different computer and generate different System IDs. If you try this, you will spend alot of time trying to fix stuff.

I would suggest simply installing Komplete 4 from scratch.

yes that is right, except you may officially use two activations in real life. The activation procedure is very simple now thanks to NI

I'm a bit confused by this, because in the product describtion it says (current Komplete 5 describtion, but Komplete 4 included the same):

For those not fluent in german it specifically states that you can use "all included products on upto three computers". Now you and the Authorization FAQ state:
So do I have two or three activations? Are two activations used up if I install a copy on a Macbook Pro running both Mac OS X and Windows or is the System ID only hardware bound?

    NI has:
-- eliminated user access to your activations (i.e. you can't "manage registrations" anymore)
-- removed the "max no. of activations" check in their activation process

    Therefore:
-- you can't deauthorize your old computers
-- you can intall and activate on your new computer

Your NI license has not changed, which allows you to USE only one computer at a time, but be installed on two machines. The orginal "two activations" was designed to allow people to use products at home and on the road (e.g. desktop at home, laptop when traveling) but was never intended to run one license on two computers at the same time (e.g. two studio computers running at the same time).

    (see "Additional Info")
The license actually restricts you to use on one computer at a time, but you are allowed three simultaneous installations.

The activation process no longer performs any type of "maximum number of activations" check, so from a technical standpoint you can activate any number of computers.

Bottom line, even if you install Komplete 5 twice on your laptop (one Mac OS, one Win XP OS using Boot camp) and one on a second computer, you still aren't violating your license...and the number of activations doesn't matter anymore.

Thanks for clarification! :) It's just like I thought it would be and it's great you made the activation process far easier now.

I do wonder though what about using individual products of the Komplete package on different computers? Like using Guitar Rig on one Laptop and Kontakt on another and maybe Reaktor on a third at the same time? This is a common scenario for distributing system load to several computers when playing Live.

    I thought it was:
    - One user (= the license holder) may
    - install three copies and
    - use three copies.

So why shouldn't I use my three installations at the same time?

Because the license does not allow that. You cannot run Windows or Office on several computers at the same time with one license and very similiar you are not allowed to use more than one copy of NI products at the same. But in contrast to Microsoft NI allows you to to install several copies and use them at different times whereas Windows will only run with one activation on a single machine. The new activation scheme is even less restrictive which means that NI trust their customers not to abuse it. Now all I need to know is what about individual producs of the "one product" Komplete Suite?

I don't see how this could violate the NI License Agreement since no single application is running on multiple computers at the same time. This would really be no different than if you had purchased GR, Kontakt and Reaktor as separate products.

    From the "Terms and Conditions"
The intent of the NI license has always been 1 license = 1 computer. NI allowed two activations per user license to cover the situation of people wanting to make music both in the studio and when travelling (e.g. on a desktop in your studio and on a laptop when you are travelling). In that situation, a single user is only using one computer at a time.

The vast majority of software licenses allow 1 license = 1 computer.

That's how I see it as well, but Komplete is in fact handled as a single product when it comes to the license. I.e. you are not allowed to sell the products seperately, so there might also be restriction on how to use single products on several computers. Frankly I simply don't know and would like to have a statement concerning this kind of setting.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. I don't believe NI's license specfically addresses this specific use of "bundled products".

Komplete is really handled as a single product with regards to re-sale.

I would contact NI directly if you really need an official answer (most of the moderators here are not NI employees).
