No processed audio on new instances

Hi, I have a puzzling problem with loss of processed audio (it passes through as if GR2 weren't there).

I've had GR2 for about a year (no Rig Kontrol) and it's worked fine until now. Starting yesterday, I stopped getting processed audio from it, but only on new instances of GR2 in my DAW (Cubase VST5.1). If I open an older project that already had an instance of GR2, it works fine there, but only in the track that already had GR2. If I create a new track in one of those older projects and add GR2 as an insert, then GR2 doesn't process the audio and the audio just passes through unchanged. The "Input" and "Output" rack modules' level-meters act as if there's no signal coming through. The other rack modules do have their meters, LEDs etc, light up though, as if they do get the signal.

It seems like maybe the problem is that I've inadvertently changed the settings on something, but I'm unable to figure out what's changed. I compared settings for a GR2 instance that works and one that doesn't, and they look the same. I haven't downloaded any GR2 updates or changed any DAW or GR2 settings. I'm using a PC w/ AMD 3700+ CPU; haven't installed any new hardware either. It looks like I've missed something here, but not sure what it is.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, thanks for responding. I wrote support earlier today; hopefully I'll hear back soon. I was hoping someone on the forum could point out an "obvious" quick fix that I missed! Do you have any suggestions for anything I could check while I wait to hear back from support?

Did this lack out output coincide with an update/upgrade?

Hi, I seem to have the very same problem.
Happens for me in cubase 4 (intel 630 Processor w/ 1.5GB RAM).
    - Standalone works fine (v 2.2.1)
    - existing VST plugin instances in songs work fine
    - new VST plugin instances show following symptoms:
    - Input/output meters at top of plugin show signal
    - Input module in rack shows no signal
    - output module in rack shows no signal
    - Signal seems to pass by GuitarRig without processing
    - Additional observations:
    - input meter of cabinets & mics module show input, but changes there show no effect
    - when I switch on high res, the output meters on top of GuitarRig instantly overload (sometimes I get maximum level noise, sometimes it is quiet)
    - when I switch off high res again, I get the unprocessed signal again

I am not 100% sure, but this problem could be there since upgrading to 2.2.1.

Is there a way to downgrade back to 2.2.0? That version had worked fine for me...

    thanks and regards,
    Dan

I had a problem for awhile with ableton live where any new instance made a horid screaching sound but all my old sets were fine. Then it just went awhile a few weeks later.

@Marc Schonbrun: No, no recent updates/upgrades.

@dklodt: I didn't mention the signal overload with High-Res, but yes, I get it too, so it does seem like we're having the same problem.

@ew: I tried the solution at the link you provided, but unfortunately it didn't work. You mentioned that it's called the "no output" bug, but I do get audio output -- it just passes through like GR2 isn't there. Or does "no output" bug refer to "no processed output"?

@mrzosonp: yeah, strangely GR2 briefly worked fine for a little while yesterday, but now it's having trouble again.

Support has suggested a reinstall of GR2, which I can certainly do, although I worry whether it'll introduce new problems (? in the Windows registry). Any suggestions on avoiding problems with reinstallation?

And finally -- today I noticed something odd (NI support hasn't received this message yet) -- when GR2 loads, the preset that displays only has the Input & Output rack modules, but no effects modules. Given that the preset browser is showing that one of my own presets has loaded, there should be effects modules in there too. If I click to a different preset then back to the original, the preset that should have been there all along appears. IIRC a few days ago when GR2 worked OK, I was working on that same preset and accidentally hit "Save" -- I tried to undo the save by hitting CTRL-Z -- I wonder whether that corrupted the preset file?

Uninstall has fixed the issue for some, not all.

    @all: thanks for the suggestions.

@ew: Thomas' fix unfortunately didn't help in my case.

I had some success by completely uninstalling GR2 via the Control Panel (using the "custom"(?) uninstall method, and selecting all entries in every selection window), then manually removing the dll from my vst folder, then installing from the Komplete 4 DVD, then applying the 2.2.0 update, then authorizing again (thank god that worked OK).

This also didn't seem to help the first time I tried, but then I realized that as soon as I open a Cubase project which had the the (2.2.1) broken version in it, the problem reappears (looks like it is in the parameter settings, not the actual dll, it did show v2.2.0). So I deleted all those project versions, started from scratch (after uninstalling/installing again as described), and now I get signal processing in the plugin again. Yeah!

Alas, apparently the "input" module in the rack is still broken. Switching on the noise reduction gives me all kinds of buzz on the signal (frequency depends on the threshold, could be aliasing, also took me a while to find out where the buzz came from), and the learn function on the input level doesn't seem to recognize a signal, it always brings the level knob to maximum.

However, I can work around those problems for now. At least I got it going to a degree.

    Perhaps this helps someone...

    Regards,
    Dan

The noise reduction isn't that great.

Hi, an uninstall/reinstall worked. As suggested above, I didn't install the 2.2.1 update. Thanks for your help.

Edit: the noise reduction button on the Input module seems to work, as does the High-Res mode.

Good! I was referring to the noise suppressor rack module -- I'm not a huge fan on that one.

So glad this worked out for you.
