No punch-in is my biggest issue with Maschine

If you write complex rhythms with both hands, (on other devices), I can practice the part over and over and over until I get the best groove, then punch in with a footswitch to capture it. I'm not going to list the many other devices that do this - it's not about me wanting to hype something else over Maschine - I use Maschine and want it to be better!

Stopping, hitting record and then trying to get that groove back in one take is stupid. I actually duplicate my sequences to like 16 bars, then edit back down after I capture the best take. But that's all stupid.

Not having a footswitch input is bad. Not allowing the record button to be midi automated is just unforgivable.

For me, it kills the workflow of recording great takes. It also limits how I would use Maschine in a live context. With other gear I use now - I play additional parts along with the bed tracks, and when something really great develops, I punch in and capture it. It would be great to use Maschine as a live midi looper.

I'm hoping that with the new update the transport controls in my DAW will be able to also control the record button on Maschine. This will allow me to use a midi footpedal to automate Logic, which will control Maschine. It's not ideal - because I don't want to have to enable recording in Logic itself just to record in Maschine, and I would rather use Maschine stand alone, particularly in a live context where I want to keep the CPU in check.

I have read on these forums talk of transport controls being automated by the host already with some template update - however I assume they just mean using Maschine as an Ableton controller going the other way - Maschine play controls Ableton play. Am I wrong? Does anyone have Maschine's record button controlled by their DAW now?

    It's almost "not September" - where is that update. . . ;)

    lol, UNFORGIVABLE!

seriously this would be a nice feature to have. so +1 on transport automation (or the ability to assign to other controllers).

i compensate for this by cloning the track I want to punch in on; removing all the notes or data from the cloned track and then let the master track play in a loop; I can do as many takes on the cloned track as I want and also undo it with 'compare'.

When you have it how you like it, drag the midi data back up onto the master track, reset the clone...

of course, with audio input, this doesn't really work.

This sounds interesting - could you explain this in more detail?

If you record a new group, the pattern length is the same as the first groups pattern, so how do you do multiple takes?

I'm happy somebody said this i agree with you all the way that little lack of a punch in feature messes with me...it messes up the groove that Ive found by making me stop lol

I usually put my patterns to like 100 bars and just play a groove. After I am satisfied I go and pull out the best parts. ;)

very similar to myself - this is a workaround and works - a punch in however would be really nice -

HEY - OP! have you made a feature request on this?

You have the 'almost' final part on pad 1. This is the track you want to 'punch into'.

Copy that sound to pad 2. Erase all the midi notes. Select any other pattern (so maschine accepts the change... you'll see why later on), and then go back to the pattern you're working on, the one where you need to do the punch in.

    Press record.

Press Play. Let the loop play, get the groove.

Now, on you keyboard or controller, try to punch in the the part.

If you **** up, just press 'compare' (shift + pad 3) and the pattern will go back to how it was before (with the almost finished part on pad 1 and nothing on pad 2, that's why we toggled to another pattern earlier)

Once you punch in the part correctly, drag and drop the midi notes in the arranger back up to the first track and reset your cloned track.

This is how I do that 'second pass' without manually having to go through an delete wrong notes or accidental hits.

    Make sense?

Again, this only works with single midi tracks, but the workflow is pretty quick.
