I just noticed none of the sounds in FM8 are working, anything in the folders for fm8 or fm7 will not come up, it just pulls up the name of the sound and in the little slot there is an ? where the fm8 symbol should be.

I've tried scanning the database, pointing to my specific plugin folder, etc...nothing seems to fix it.

All the other sounds seem to work, it's just those that are associated with fm8. They all come up fine in fm8 standalone.

    any ideas

That's after the Kore 2.1.1 Update, right ?
Happened for me with Kontakt 2 and Absynth 4.
A plugin rescan inside Kore helped.

yeah after the 2.1.1...I did a rescan of plugins a few times, I'll keep trying to see what I can come up with lol.

Did you do a forced rescan of your plugins from options/plugins? Try that.
Also, try starting FM8 up in standalone and rebuilding the database there. Reboot your system at the end and start Kore.

In the database tab in fm8, it's only pointing to my user directory, I don't have any user files so there is nothing to rescan, but all the factory sounds load fine in fm8. Even the fm 7 files that come with it.

The factory content location's automatically included with any scan...

I'm having this same problem. It's *not* just a matter of the factory content, though; if I try to explicitly load FM8, I see the same thing as when I load a sound from the FM8 factory content. See the attachment; Kore is smart enough to recognize FM8, but it's not letting me open FM8's interface in any way (unlike an Absynth sound, where the logo in the top left is the Absynth logo and the word 'Edit' is also displayed; clicking it opens the Absynth 5 interface within Kore in a new window)

Something is preventing Kore from properly using the plugin. Reinstalling FM8 and rescanning all plugins in Kore hasn't helped.

If it's relevant, I'm using the absolute latest versions of all Komplete 6 plugins and of Kore on 32-bit Windows XP Home, and I know my FM8 installation is fine since I can load FM8 and all its koresounds within Ableton Live. It doesn't matter whether I'm using Kore as a plugin, either 2 or 16 outputs, or as standalone.

Rescan your plugins. If that doesn't work, go to (turn on "show hidden files and folders")
    Documents and Settings\*your user name*\Local Settings\Application Datra\Native Instruments\Kore 2\Database Cache
and remove any FM8 .ksds you find in there. Reboot and start Kore as a standalone. Done.

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling all my NI products (and wiping all the folders containing NI content) before I saw your response, so I couldn't try wiping the FM8 KSDs. I'm skeptical that doing that would fix a problem with Kore recognizing *the plugin itself*, when loaded as a VST within Kore (i.e. *not* using any KSDs), but for any future readers, definitely try that first before reinstalling. The reinstall worked, but took much longer.

It has everything to do with the plugin being recognized.

The .ksds in the place I was referring to are what Kore uses to build its plugin list; the .ksd refers to the plugin by its plugin ID. There's two there in the case of FM8; one for the instrument and one for the effect. It's the first thing I check if I have a plugin not being recognized.

So what you're saying, then, is that when I scan my plugin folder in Kore, a KSD gets created for every VST in the folder? Ok, that makes much more sense, then.

You PC or Mac, Joe? In either case, do you have the VST plugin version installed? Kore prefers the VST versions.

PC, vst is installed, it's weird lol. Some of the fm8 sounds work, I assume it's the one's using the internal engine.

it's okay, I usually just pull up fm8 or whatever, i mainly use kore to play the kore soundpacks.

just weird, I tried everything, deleting the fm8 ksd files, rescanning plugins, all of that.

It's just weird it's happening on my laptop as well as on my desktop which is a brand new install.

    all other sounds register fine...

fyi after looking at the other plugins, I noticed the ones with fx.dll all had the fx.dll in the plugins folder, I didn't have my fm8fx.dll in there, I think that's what caused my issue.

after I reinstalled and checked to see if the fx.dll was there, my fm8 sounds and plugin loads fine in kore...weird, not sure why it matters? lol

    oh well
