    Hello,

I just got Maschine, and have been playing around with it for about a day. I love it so far! It's my first type of device like this, I've never really liked MPCs so I never dove in and got one and learned the ropes.

One thing I remember MPCs having, though, is 'Note On' which is the sample plays only while you have the pad pressed, and it stops when you release the pad. I'm having trouble finding where a similar setting would be in Maschine. I'm sure it's just called something different, but can anyone point me in the right direction?

For example, I like a sample of a woman saying "1,2,3,4" and want to play around with that. Any help would be much appreciated!

look up ADSR and ONESHOT or even search the forums for it...

There's also youtube tutorials which will go over that too...

why dont you just tell him how to do it?
when you have the sample loaded in and you have selected the "sound" and "src" tabs selected, up the left and right arrow keys on the controller until you see the "Pitch/Gate" Options on the left screen. The print above the fourth knob will say "Type" Turn this knob until youve selected the "ADSR" option. On the right screen the four knobs will be labeled Attack Decay Sustain and Release. Set Attack, Sustain, and Release to 0% and decay to 100%. There you go!

maybe he would've learned something else while (easily, with the info I gave him) searching for it...

I've personally explained it a few times on here and have seen it explained by others a few times so it can't be hard to find. He just needed to know what he was looking for. So that's two reasons why I didn't just tell him how to do it...

    Thanks!

Thanks for your replies. Stephenwolf, thanks for explaining in detail how to get it done, you're a lifesaver!

I guess I got so caught up in looking for the words 'Note On' that it hampered my ability to think clearly and look for other terms! Appreciate it :)

KDilla, I see your point, however, not everyone is the same kind of learner. Personally, I have to do something myself before I can really learn it, and I do read the manuals, but I learn more by screwing around and discovering one thing after another. Some folks learn by being told, some folks learn by reading.

The point of the forums I think is to have an open environment where people don't feel afraid to ask questions, and I think that a back-and-forth conversational place is the kind that people benefit from most.

There are some questions that do pop up all the time (ADSR vs Oneshot being one of them), but since this also opens up the opportunity to pass on some info beyond the original question (ie "When I want a sample to play almost all the way out, but then gradually fade out at the very end, I set my ADSR to X/X/X/X") then everyone gets to learn new stuff.

We were all brand new at something somewhere at some point. No harm in helping folks.

For beesbeats - here's the advanced search function for the forums, as KDilla mentioned, lots of questions have been answered a bunch, so when you run into stuff, searching is a really great way to see what ground has been covered (and like I mentioned, learn new ****, too) http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/search.php?f=222
