Is it possible to create the types of Hi-Hat's you hear in trap music ... for those that don't know trap music listen to what I mean at 0:52 : [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6yyThm7DtY[/ame]

This is easy to do on the MPC with the note repeat feature, and I know the Maschine has something similar but what I want to do is put a Hi-Hat on pads 1,2,3,4 and then have each pad use a different note repeat quantize like 1/8, 1/12, 1/16, and 1/32 so when I press the pads the Hi-Hats automatically roll at those quantize settings.

If you know what I mean.

    Is this possible?

yes, you can set up 4 different note repeat speeds - i usually go with 1/8, 1/16, 1/16T, 1/32, then all you need to do is toggle the top-right 4 buttons while on your hihat to get the distinctive trap hats.

that way you only need 1 hihat pad.

I know about that way of doing it, but I like to do a lot of live finger drumming - especially when jamming. I'd rather be able to have the same hi-hat on 4 pads, each with note repeat automatically active on those pads with different quantize settings. That's what I'm looking to do if possible.

do you mean you want to be doing kicks, snares, claps etc while doing the hihats?

unless you have traktor, in which case you could make a bar of different hihat patterns and load them into one channel of the remix deck, then turn on 'punch' for those samples and you could easily switch between the hihat patterns.

I'm not an actual Mux user, but I'm under the impression that what you're wanting to accomplish should be possible.

Alternatively some properly set up reaktor ensembles (one per pad) should be able to do the same thing.

Obviously the set up will be a bit more intense than your standard loading of a sample into maschine.

What about sampling the results of the 4 different quantises, putting them on four seperate pads and adding them to the same choke group with a silent pad as well to turn them off completely.

Just a thought don't knowing that would achieve what your after

I think the note repeat in Maschine is really underdeveloped. It could be so useful, but as it stand its just a toy!

1.: Why can't I keep having the repeat without having the "Note repeat" window?

I would like to tweak some knobs and FX while in note repeat. Its actually possible in the software with the mouse, but the controller doesn't let you do it.

2.: Why can't the note repeat not stay the same for a held pad (let's say 1/4th hold for Kick) when changing to another speed ( keep holding Kick on 1/4th - change note repeat to 1/8th Hold HiHat: Bam easy fluid live play of drum patterns ad swing per sound to taste) But no, I now have a Kick every 8th note - how useful....

3.: There are just not enough different speed options: dotted notes and slower than 1/4th would be very useful (the later mostly for synth patches)

4.: The option the OP described.

I would hope for even more than that though to be implemented: An easy to use (on the hardware!) Arp would be AWESOME

This sounds like the most reasonable option in my opinion. That way you can still modulate effects while have the note repeat going. You could also set up loop and make it so the note repeat is continuous

you might have to turn quantize onto play mode or have very good timing otherwise you'll trip your rhythm up, launching loops in tight timing like 1/32nd notes.

^This! NI, If you're listening, this would be an awesome update. Just think of how easy it would be for people who are not proficient at pad drumming to lay down a quick pattern (not to mention the happy/glitchy accidents that would occur). If there are others who agree, keep this thread alive.

FYI I have moved on from Maschine to Push, and while Push does not do the second request either, it does do step 1 beautifully out of the box (standard behavior)
Requests 3 and 4, as well as the desired Arpeggiator are easy to set up by simply putting Lives Arpeggiator device onto each drum pad. You even get to modulate the settings of the Arp on Push while playing.
Request 2 is not implemented either, but who knows maybe one of the many user remote scripts will one day accomplish this?!

True...I have PUSH as well and it does do this, but I'm most interested in idea #2. Specifically, being able to assign 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc. to each pad ahead of time within the Note Repeat menu. Then, you could just focus having two hands free for playing (rather than holding knobs or pressing buttons that only change the note repeat globally anyway).
