Hi there, I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but my problem with Kontakt is that when I play a Grand Piano Sample set and have the sustain pedal down. Note stealing starts after 8 notes. The thing is, I've tried adjusting the polyphony on the <number of notes>/polyphony setting and even raising it to 64 doesn't work. The first note goes on the ninth note no matter what the setting is. I thought this might be due to the number of audio outputs or something that might be eating up the polyphony, and tried lowering it to the bare minimum. I stereo output. Even then, note stealing from the ninth note on STILL happens! What gives? Can anyone help please?

I have noticed this as well, with drum sounds. If I do a tom fill, a bunch of 8th or 16th notes, the tom sound stops playing after about 8 of them, definately a problem. I figured right away that I would not be able to use Kontakt for drums.

    kind regards

    I've got it!

Right after posting, I went back and checked the manual again and I discovered V.Grps! Here goes: Above the browser at the top right, there ought to be a buttom labelled 'structure'. Click on that and a whole list of stuff like 'modules' etc etc come out. At the bottom of this list is an option 'v.grp' click on that and you'll see a list with stuff like oldest/newest etc and a column of numbers. Those numbers are the 'polyphony' of your voice group (v.grp) Depending on how your instrument was mapped, there might be just one or several voicegroups. The default 'polyphony' for each group was 8 and that's why I couldn't go above 8 notes on my grand piano instrument. The person who did the mapping assigned the samples to 16 different groups and each group was assigned 8 notes. Everytime I went above 8, the oldest notes (first played) would be 'stolen' (Hence the oldest/newest setting is to decide WHICH note gets stolen).

Simply, to get rid of your note stealing problem, just set the v.grp 'polyphony' higher and you're golden! If you mapped the instrument yourself and didn't assign any v.grps, you probably only have to change that one v.grp setting.

One question though, how on earth did you exceed the 8 note polyphony for your voicegroup with a drum set?! The notes aren't sustained, so they ought to be one - shots. The drummer's got 2 sticks man :) How's you hit more than 8 notes at any one time?

    Re: I've got it!

The toms do sustain that long, or atleast the ones that I was using. Wizoo acoustic drums, the ambient set. The floor toms especially. And if I played the snr fast enough, I could cause it to miss a note every once and a while. Those samples continue thru every drop of the drums natural sustain. Ofcourse most of the time, you only hear the 1st 1/4 of that sustain.

    kind regards,
    /d

That's strange. Groups and Voice Groups are definitely things you should look into. Also check your DFD settings (if you're using DFD) as that has its own polyphony setting that could affect note stealing, in theory.

Thanks ddas, like I mentioned in my second post, I figured it out and realized it was due to the voice groups that caused the note stealing as my polyphony setting for each group was only 8 and raising the instrument's polyphony didn't affect the note stealing. Change the voice group's polyphony solved everything. Thanks!

    Akirasan,
    I tried what you said,
I went to Group editor, selected all groups, and incriesed the voice number for each group. But I am still getting my notes cut off. And its always the last ones I play regardless of my "newst/oldest" mode selection. This makes this gorgeous steinway piano useless for me.
Maybe I am not getting it right.
    Please help
