does anyone else have the problem of inputed midi notes sticking, if so how do I stop that from happening. I've used a number of different midi controllers and the problem continues. It happens often (2 or three times a day)
    any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a driver issue to me.You didn't say what you're using as a MIDI interface.Make sure you have the latest drivers for whatever you're using, and if it's a USB interface, make sure you have any power conservation schemes for the USB hubs shut off.

I've been having the same problem. I get a stuck note within a few minutes of playing any patch - I just have to switch back and forth from another patch to kill it, but it is annoying when recording.

I've got Komplete 2 and I'm using a MOTU 828mkII with the latest driver on a Windows XP system. What are you using? Have you found a fix yet?

[EDIT] I also generally use a foot pedal as my mod wheel controller, which generally means more MIDI messages running through all the time. Do you have anything like that going on that could be overloading the MIDI pipeline? Are you using MIDI cable connections or a USB-MIDI connection?

Yes, I also have the same problem. It happens both when I play my MIDI controller and also when playing back a sequence through Sonar 3. This does not happen with FM7 or Reaktor, at least it hasn't yet in my setup. I use lots of soft synths, so I doubt it's a driver issue, and the fact that I get stuck notes just by having Sonar play my project back makes me think this is an Absynth problem.

This also happens to me a lot (much more often than mori describes) with the Absynth standalone on Mac OS X - not just stuck notes (MIDI Note Off lost) but missed notes (MIDI Note On lost). Several other NI products (though not all) show the same behaviour. On the other hand, the AudioUnit plugin versions of all these apps can be played without problems using Logic 6 as host.

The problem seems most acute when playing chords - it looks as if closely-spaced MIDI messages are the most likely to get lost. I've monitored the MIDI data stream while this is happening, and the 'missed' messages are definitely being received and recorded by the OS - it's Absynth that's losing them.

Here are my guesses, for what they're worth (disclaimer - I'm a professional coder, among other things, but I haven't done much audio work):

    1) The affected products probably all use the same, or very similar code to handle incoming MIDI data at some level, and it's rather badly flawed. The fact that several apps are affected, on both Macs and PCs, strongly suggests this.

    2) The plugins work properly in Logic, and probably other hosts, because the relevant level of MIDI message handling is done by the host rather than the plugin. Alternatively, these hosts are pre-processing (spacing out?) the MIDI data stream in such a way that the flawed code can handle it. Clearly, this doesn't hold true for all hosts.

    3) The upside - if this is a problem with widely-shared code, the same fix should work for all affected apps on both platforms.

By the way, there's an 'All Notes Off' panic button on Absynth's front panel - the embossed exclamation mark in a circle, top section, just right of centre. I'd never noticed it either, till I went looking in the manual.

For the record, I'm using an Evolution Mk249c keyboard, connected directly via USB.

This certainly seems like a confirmed problem worth fixing. For me at least, it makes Absynth useless in a live setting. I just can't rely on it performing cleanly when notes consistently stick like this. I would love to see this fixed asap, because I would love to use it live.

I'm also getting sticking notes. I'm awaiting a new music computer so I currently use Komplete 2 instruments in standalone mode on an imac so I can get used to them.
    It's happened with Absynth, FM7 and Pro-53.

To those on Windows boxes, I received this reply from NI, although I haven't had a chance to test the potential fix yet. If anyone has the chance, please post your findings...

"Please check your system BIOS and ensure that hyperthreading is disabled. Stuck notes on the PC are usually due to this setting being enabled. It might also show up as \"high performance\". If you have any questions regarding on how to do this, please refer to your motherboard manufacturer\'s manual."

I don't have a hyperthreaded CPU, so that's not the problem here.

i have the same problem too.
    I'm on osx with a powerbook 867.
This happens with all n.i. synths in standalone
when play with my remote25 via usb (i also have a problem about program change, see my other post). The worse is that i use ableton live and version 4, in beta for now, is affected by the same problem. I'm really disappointed because have spent a lot of money for the komplete and now seems it has a lot of things to be fixed.
Btw with other programs like numerology and bidule i don't get stuck notes anbd program changes work fine, so the problem in NOT only from usb drivers but also of n.i.
Hope they should fix this soon.

Anyone from NI want to chime in on this one? It seems to be a pretty consistent problem and, while pretty straightforward, is sort of killing those of us that want to use it live. Is this a software issue, or a system issue? Are there people out there NOT experiencing this problem?

i have called abynth NI-support months ago.
they were already aware of this problem.
until today the situation only has a bit impdroved with v2.05.
but i would never use absynth in standalone mode live.
with cubase as a plugin everythings fine.

The problem must be with Absynth. I'm allways getting sticking and missing notes, no matter whether stand-alone or plug-in. First thought I had to blame it on my old Win98.

If I'm doing something or just sit and wait. No matter whether playing chords or single notes, slow or fast, moving several controllers or not. The sticking notes appear in any case (and very often!) and they seem to be released only when a cc123 (AllNotesOff) is beeing sent from the host or Absynth's panic button is beeing hit. Hitting the same key again in order to send a NoteOff does not help in most cases.

When a note gets stuck every note beeing sent _exactly_ at the same time (chords or duplicated tracks) hangs too, I've tried this with up to 9 notes. There seems to be a coherence: the more notes at the same time the more often they get stuck, nevertheless randomly, with 9 notes about 5 to 10 times a minute (8th at 120bpm). No problems with Kompakt/Kontakt or any other plug.

    My config:
AMD Athlon 1.5Gh on MSI K7T266 Pro2-A, 512 MB Ram
    Win98SE, Cubasis VST 5
Edirol PCR-50 -> MIDI-In of Delta audiophile 2496 (latest driver)
deactivated any other MIDI/Audio device (incl. Hubi's Loopback)

Absynth is awesome, but this is really a problem!

    the only solution i found

at least i can use absynth, but only with a logic session open...and that fine, cause it's logic who cares about midi's informations...
I hope people from native looking through this forum sometimes ;-)

    ibook g3 900 mhz - osx 10.3 - keyboard evolution mk-249 c2 - logic 6

    notes sticking - latency?

Adjusting "latency" (audio?) seems to correct midi keyboard input problems....but not a satisfactory longterm solution. There's no way you could perform live. This is definitely an Absynth programming problem that needs to be addressed. However I suspect it's not going to be a quick fix.

Here's an extract from a post made a couple of days ago on the remote25 yahoogroup, which might shed some light on the issue.

    -START EXTRACT-
    4) Reported problems with the OSX USB MIDI drivers for both the X-Station and
the ReMOTE 25 when used with Ableton Live and Native Instruments software in
stand alone mode have been investigated. The symptoms of stuck / missing notes
have been reproduced and have conclusively been shown that this is not a fault
    of the Novation MIDI drivers.

We have had a very positive response from both Native and Ableton who have also
been able to reproduce the issue. We are offering a work around to address the
problem until this can be solved at source by means of a compatibility mode
application that will simply run in the background on an OSX Mac. This is due
    for release by Friday 21.08.04.

They probably want to know the exact cause and how to fix it before making any official statements. As stated what Novation is a interrim fix until it's addressed fully by NI and Ableton.
