    NI,

I am a longtime user of Traktor. I read the request for an equalizer earlier this month and support it. However, it would be great if there was a numeric readout above the bar display of the main output and on each deck. I for one do not use Autogain because of all the different setups I plug into. I would love to see the actual number of the DB level in front of me on each deck. It would make things a lot easier.

    Thanks for considering.

If you had a denon controller you could see those values on its display in real time. :p

Using Professional mixers is where I run into the problem. Forget about controllers. If I used the same equipment every time, I would not be asking for this feature.

An example of what I am requesting is used in the Meter on Sony's Sound Forge software. There is a numeric display of the DB level shown above the meter to the right of the screen...

Why may I ask don't you use autogain? Even if you change equipment a lot: just setting gains equal on the mixer allows autogain to flawlessly take over. At least that's my experience: after many years of instinctive gain fiddling after inserting CD's, I now touch the gains on the mixer less than 10 times in a 8 hour set...

oh, and I don't think the peak dB level will bring you much further: autogain reacts to RMS (or better: percieved loudness) over the whole song. Just setting every song so that it will have it's peak level at 0dB will not mean that gain between those songs is equal.

But hey, maybe there is a valid reason why you indeed need this, but I am curious why ;)

To see the actual numbers. I want to read on my screen the numbered level of my output; not a mini bar that goes from blue to red. I do not want to use the limiter, nor the auto gain. Yes I know those features well, but the auto gain never set any levels properly on it's own. So that would be another task for me to manually. I already have to categorize, analyze, beat-grid, and cue the track.

That begins to be a very subjective opinion, it works great for me, always, I don't even touch the gains when playing.

Hmmm.. Well, I'm going to leave the autogain issue in the middle... To me it's fine. But then again: the timecode CD latency is fine to some people, and the broken traktor keylock a while back was fine to some people too ;) So I know how you feel, and don't want to be frustrating you ;)

But the limiter: If you set your master volume down a bit, and your (real hardware) mixer gains up a notch, then the limiter won't kick in that fast... I play with my master at -2.7dB.

But euhm, I actually would want a bit of extra info around this thing as well: could someone from NI comment on the internal workings of the mixer, and especially about limiting and dynamics? I have allways been quite anti-compression, but since traktor I actually don't know how what happens to my signal chain before the mixer....
