1.)Traktor Pro (229€) = No Timecode Control & No (included) Audio Interface => No Scratching (well, except with a midicontroller, but I'm talking vinyl or cds here)!

If you are using or plan on using a midicontroller f.e. Vestax VCI-100 or 300 or Behringer BCD 300 you can scratch with those and the Traktor Pro Software but of course the feeling an the sound won't compare to timecodecontroll or real vinyl!

    2.)Traktor Scratch Pro (599€) = Timecode Control & Audio 8 Dj Audio Interface => Scratching With Timecode-Cds and Timecode-Vinyl ;)

And of course there is no downloadable version of Traktor SCRATCH Pro, since a Audio Interface (audio 8 dj) as well as 2 TimecodeCds, 2 TimecodeVinyls and a set of multicorecables are included (how would you wanna download hardware?:D )

But honestly, couldn't you have figured that one out by yourself? 2min research and you would have had all the answers!

Yeah but wheres the fun in that? ;) You've got it almost all nailed down... A couple of points to close on.

Traktor Pro = No timecode control = No scratching via vinyl control: BUT you can use any ASIO capable soundcard. IF you want to use Traktors internal Mixer function you only need 4 channels (2 X 2 pairs of Stereo) out. If you want to use an external mixer then you need 1 pair of stererereo outputs per deck you plan to use. So, if you wanna be a 4 deck mixing fool (my personal favorite style of audio disaster) then you need a soundcard with 8 outs (4 stereo pairs); ala Audio 8, Firewire 410, Firebox, Motu, RME or a host of other very good soundcards.

Scratch Pro = Timecode control = Scratching via vinyl control: BUT you MUST use the Audio 8 Soundcard to do so. When you buy Scratch Pro you buy this soundcard as part of the package. This gives you 4 deck timecode control (no other soundcard will give you timecode control in Scratch Pro) and your output limitations are then moved out to the capabilities to the mixer. Most Scratch DJ's drop their Voodoo on two decks; so pretty much all DJ mixers will do the trickz. If you have mennee powerful DJ Kung Flu skill and want to do da scratch wikky wik binizz on 3 or 4 decks you'll need more decks; TT if you already have turnatables or CD, if that is what makes yer wand wizz. Of course you can also flip the timecode control around as you go and play with Timecode using just one or two decks.

So now that you are armed with some with the collective buyers guide info and DjStrategys pricing info you should be all set...

PhilL forgot the Audio 4 Dj, which can also be used with Traktor Scratch Pro and gives you timecodecontrol, but then of course only for 2 decks!
Hence the Name Audio Dj 4 = 4 Ins&Outs...it can't be purchased as a part of an "Traktor Scratch Pro Package" though, but is sold either separately or as part of the Traktor Scratch Duo Package (349 €), which might also be something for you to check out if you are just getting started and want to learn how to scratch via timecodecontrol!;)

Hahaha, absolutely luving this part PhilL!:D ;)

PS. Oh and of course all Traktor-Scratch-Certified- Mixers can be used a a soundcard for Traktor Scratch (Pro) and Timecodecontrol!

Oh.....Well then, all you have to do is buy the Taktor Pro (299€) Software and get started!
Download and install the software as well as the Audio8 Drivers and, when starting the software, make sure, to set it to "Audio 8 Scratch" within the setup options!
    Other then that....Enjoy!;)

    Hi,

M-AUDIO FAST TRACK ULTRA, has enough INs/OUTs for Traktor Scratch Pro , but from what I've read so far, Timecode/Scratching is only possible with AUDIO 4 DJ or AUDIO 8. Is this truth ?

    * * I'm sorry about asking, but I'm surfing on Firefox 3.5.2 and at least for now, I cant check the comparision chart tables, etc on NI website. I remember seeing this info, a few months ago, but I cant remember * *

I was thinking about getting NI SCRATCH DUO package for €320 Euros. But the soundcard, is only for DJ (I know I can use it diferently, but lack of Mic input etc, made me try to find something diferent). I found MAudio Fast Track Ultra, wish sounds awsome for the same price, I guess!

The full package of NI SCRATCH PRO is probably €500 and something, and the soundcard that comes, lacks the same issues. I'm not a DJ, but a Producer, so, I need something more versatile, I dont know if you understand? Yes, I know I could add a analog mixer and connect to the Inputs to have Mic preamps etc, but forget it.

How much is NI SCRATCH PRO for timecode, scratching ? Without soundcard, package, etc ? So, works or not, with diferent soundcard, like M-Audio Fast Track Ultra? Anyone ever tested it? Can I scratch with it ? Is there any diference ?

My DVS experience, is VirtualDJ + U46SE + Serato TimeCode Vinyl. I can tell you, that latency is 2ms, but I cant scratch, is not the same fealling as real vinyl!

Thanks for your atention, any sugestion is appreciated!

------------------------------- AFTER A few moments I found the answer, it seems that for Scratching you really need Audio4 or Audio8, anyother wont work!

But, while I was going to clear this message, I found the following thread:
    http://www.native-instruments.com/f...4&highlight=m-audio+soundcard+traktor+scratch

Wish claims that you can use Xone4D and probably other and diferent soundcards, for example, M-Audio with 4ins and 4outs! There's even someone sugesting that Audio8 gives 5.5ms, when we can get 0ms with RME soundcards. So, I'm still curious!

Well the Xone4d is now certified, so you can see why they can use it with timecode. You can't buy Traktor Scratch without either already owning an Audio4/Audio8/certified mixer or buying the total package outright.

Even if you could do it, it wouldn't be legal and thus no one is allowed to post up on how to do it. Even if it IS truly possible.

    Slow TS Pro Load/Start Times

Hey, have any work around or tips been created on dealing with slow load times? I have approximately 70K songs and am plagued with 5-10 start times for TS Pro.

For the Computer Geeks out there, I see a ton a memory hard faults that I assume are due to the newer Striping scheme used (170K count of files for meta-data) being loaded into a memory page files.

Due to the lack of hard faults when reloading Traktor (as the memory locations have already been cached), it loads up within 30 seconds to a minute (much better.)

These were are similar to doing a "Import Music Folders", however I have the option unchecked for Auto Import at Start-up. The consistency check is also unchecked.

So has been a HUGE problem when testing hardware issues I had with a MIDI controller as I had to continue to reboot my box and wait for Traktor to do a cold load.

Anyway suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Side Note to Developers:
There still exist several edge cases were duplicate filename/collection entries can be created.

    Two of such:
    - Changing the case of a file name after a file is already in collection. The new case will be added as another entry but the consistency check is still okay with the old one too. Either correcting the consistency check or import functions would be rather helpful.

    - Using the relocate function. Even if nothing in the file has changed, only the location, the data is often changed to match another similar entry. As such, the ID3 tags are incorrectly changed AND a duplicate entry for the similar item is created. Several issues with this function need attention.

i'm pretty new to this software so i'm gonna shoot of a couple dumb questions...

    1. is it crucial that i have my music loaded on my internal hard drive as opposed to having it connected to a usb external?

    2. i've read (on this forum) that it's possible to control 4 decks with traktor pro despite only having audio 4. obviously, i understand that i can only connect 2 decks to the audio 4, but i can assign those 2 decks to 4 decks within traktor on the fly, correct?

    3. i have traktor duo working ok on vista, is there any really convincing reason i should partition my hard drive and have it run separately on xp sp3?

thanks in advance for the help.

    System requirements question:

First of all, I'm so sorry if there are already like 10 million posts about this, but i'm having a hard time trying to figure out this website's forum.

Anyway, my friend wants to buy Traktor Scratch Pro, first of all he is going to buy a notebook (laptop) to install it on. But we don't know what the exact requirements are. Ofcourse on the website they say "Pentium* IV or Athlon 1.4 GHz (SSE1), 1 GB RAM". But this seems very low.
Are there people that can say, "well, ive used it and i suggest 2 GB RAM, 1.8-2.0 GHz 2 Dual Core processor, video card has to be ......" ?

    Thank you so much!

    Welcome To The Forum.

The minimum specs are low. That is just a guideline because different laptops will cope better or worse with the same specs.

As a rough guide personally i would say 2.0Ghz core2duo, 2 GB Ram to make TSP run well.

It may well run on the minimum specs on the website but there are a lot of factors that can upset the minimum spec and leave it under powered.

Of course you will always hear that someone has Traktor running well on a pocket calculator but are you a techy freak that can do that ?
If not get something over-speced and enjoy Traktor without the headache of tweaking the life out of a laptop.

To be honest these days you may be hard pressed to find a laptop lower that 2.0ghz if your buying new.

Then you have to decide Mac or PC.;)
