Just received Komplete 8 Ultimate. Being slightly concerned about hard drives failing, thought I would back the disk up to my NAS box. Any reason why I shouldn't do this as a safety measure?
    ---
OK the copy failed in the additional software folder, some error regarding not being able to remove a file as the file name is too long. :(

Any suggestions as to how we can back the disk up? It does seem a point of vulnerability!

Good luck. My HD was DOA. Spin-up,click, click, click, stop... Spin-up,click, click, click, stop... then the same thing over and over. Grrrrr. Just install it asap! Before it fails.

Oh. Something easy that perhaps somebody can do to help:

If you have a working Komplete 8 Ultimate drive, and you are running on Windows, there is something easy you could do to help me recover from RoboCopy:

    1. Plug in your Komplete 8 Ultimate drive.
    2. Open up a command prompt window
    3. cd to the root directory of the drive
    4. Run "attrib *.*"

This will report the file attribute settings for all files in the root directory. It will not change anything on the drive.

What I need to know: which files, if any, have the 'S' and 'H' attributes set on them?

    working on it now

This is a bit of a late reply, but I just recieved my doa drive today.

Actually it's not the drive, but the usb-to-sata controller. I found a small coil component that was falling off and doesn't look easy to solder it back on.

So I took my own usb-to-sata controller and hooked up the drive. I see the files fine, but I started to back up the drive with acronis before trying to install. I'm hoping there is nothing special about the controller needed to install (like it being a dongle or something). It looks too cheap for that.

Once i get it backed and test if it installs, I can report back the attributes if you still want them.

    successful backup

Ok, I made the backup image from the original toshiba laptop drive with acronis, then restored the image to another one of my usb drives (desktop sized drive). It installs fine from the restored drive.

NI, I am going to save you the cost of returning this drive. I'll keep the original drive as a master. You are welcome. You can voucher me if you want =).

    Hi Kernelk,

    Thanks for the feedback!:)

Did you just clone the disk in Acronis? I have my original disk, but would feel happier if I could have a copy in case of drive failure! Either that or might see if Acronis will make an image on my NAS boxes!

    @Itron

I created a backup image (186gb). I would find some imaging software and do the same and store the image on your nas. Be sure to test the image by restoring to another disk and do an install from that.

    good luck

Hi, what imaging software can I use to do this as I also wish to protect my investment.

I used acronis true image 11. But any disk imaging software should be able to do it. There might even be some freeware options.
