Anyone know where I can get hold of some old school (or is it skool?) hardcore breakbeats? Early Prodigy style stuff?

Or better yet, anyone know what samples those old school guys used and/or any tutorials out there for building those sort of breaks from scratch? (Anything in Maschine library for that matter?)

yeah its called oldskool. the most used break is the amen break but funky drummer and all the other breaks got used. for stabs look out for zehiser oldskool stabs. hyper-on experience just announced lately that they have made the jungle warfare vol 1 sample pack. from what i have read zero g's datafiles or norman cook's skip to my loops have been used alot aswell.
here you will a sample pack from blu mar ten with a lot of nice oldskool samples.

    hardcore will never die ;)

Cheers for the info and link to the free breaks pack. After doing a bit of research it seems that the zero g datafile is the sample pack that was used the most but is nigh on impossible to get hold of today.

I've got an idea of mixing hardcore breaks with more modern neuro bass sounds but need to get hold of the breaks first to try it out. ;)

i think you can get a lot of breaks from the net as i did. if not pm me and i might get you sorted.

i am not so familiar with neuro stuff but future jungle (140bpm) or hardcore breaks / nu rave (150bpm) are the modern versions of those oldskool styles. those scenes are quite lively in the underground.

They used the same funk, rock, jazz breaks that hip hop used. Get Ultimate breaks and Beats and go mad with it.
speed up the breaks for that old skool flavour. And use at least 2 breaks mixed together for the chaotic sound. Modern software can make these beats real quick and easy, and with something like ableton you can get things really precise and and locked in.
Amen, Funky Drummer, Apache are good places to start....

Yup, old school funk/soul breaks, saturate, compress, layer. If you're after 'Jilted Generation' type stuff, then layer breaks on top of a 4 on the floor drum machine pattern. Hire some shouty bloke with crazy hair. Done. (Jilted Generation is a genius album BTW).

Funny you should mention that. It was listening to "Jilted Generation" yesterday that got me inspired to work with old "skool" breaks in the first place. ;)

Yea gods, £249 to get this on cd/dvd. A little bit out of my price range for break samples...

This site is a great ressource in my opinion:
    http://www.junglebreaks.co.uk/

Use them mainly for drum'n'bass, but will fit for everything else too

249? You're looking in the wrong place. Unless you're getting them all on vinyl? I have most on vinyl, but thecompilation DVD was no where near that price... Besides these breaks are everywhere online.

Not that I'd advocate getting them that way.... Of course.

Well, i just googled "Ultimate Breaks and Beats The complete collection" and the only places i could find to buy it was ebay and amazon, both at around the £250 mark. Juno records once upon a time offered it as a usb flash drive for around £70 but it's not in stock.

That was the album that introduced me to Electronica. My sister bought the album on vinyl for me one year. Timeless. Poison is badass.

Zero G still sells the series here
