older NI libraries now require Kontact 5?

    Hi,

I haven't made the jump to Kontakt 5 yet. What I have noticed is that NI libraries that were released before 5 are now listed as requiring Kontakt 5 when they used to work fine with Kontact 4. Did they upgrade everything or is this just a ploy to get you to upgrade?

    wow.. reallly ?

I just purchased the Abbey Road80's drums because of the discount .. but it wont open open in Kontakt 4. I think that's really, amazingly uncool.
Can someone please inform me if I am mistaken..?

You're unfortunately not mistaken. Libraries updated after September 1 are not Kontakt 4 compatible anymore.

Keep sending complaints about this. Other manufacturers sell products with original nki's if they update these. I also wanted to get some more stuff, now I need to look at other manufacturers.

NI doesn't have a clear FAQ for those who are not necessarily upgrading to K5.

Just to be clear, if I purchase a new library (I just bought Retro Machines MK2), I install Kontakt 5 and it will work in K5.

I just want to be assured that my older libraries (and my previous DAW files) will continue to work with Kontakt 4.

    Can someone confirm, please?

    thanks!

This is correct - Kontakt 5 installs alongside Kontakt 4, so you have two separate VST plugins for them. So your old projects will still open K4 instead of K5.

thanks for the help , question though

So upgrading to kontakt 5 will require two versions of kontakt to run on my computer?
Can I only install the program(update) and keep the libraries I already have ?

I'm sure Kontakt 5 has new content so you'll probably want to install the whole thing alongside? Or are you just talking about the player?

If you install the updates for Kontakt powered instruments the update will overwrite your old nki files and make them Kontakt 4 incompatible. I don't know if you need the new nki's but if you install the update, make a back up of the original nki's, put the new ones in a K5 folder in the library and put the old ones in a K4 folder :)

Kontakt 5 has no new content in factory library. Perhaps some scripts being tweaked a bit (for example, Choir library now supports consonant keyswitches).

Well, here's the point, and perhaps someone at NI is reading this. I bought Kontakt 4 precisely because there were some samples libraries available for it that I was personally interested in. I have all those libraries now, some of which are NI and some of which are 3rd party, and they run happily in Kontakt 4. The new features in Kontact 5 or nice but hardly worth the hassle of upgrading these libraries or running the risk of them being incompatible with Kontakt 5. If the current NI offerings are not compatible with Kontakt 4 , even though they were in the past, then that just means I won't be buying them.

That's pretty disappointing. I was just about to get modern drums at the sale price when I looked at specs and saw it requires kontakt 5 or k5 player, and not for k4 anymore.

This post is not encouraging as far as installing K5 player...

    http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=78399&sid=498336d1880db0f795cfbcecd6991cdf

So I don't want to upgrade to K5 full version yet, I don't want to use modern drums in k5 player as I have full version of K4 and prefer to use that, so I guess I save $60 by not buying modern drums afterall. Too bad for me I guess.

Ok I'm even more confused now than before.. So if I install K5 as an upgrade there's a good chance my third party samples that work great in 4 won't work at all any more in either 4 or 5?
Please tell me this isn't true.. this just keeps getting worse and worse.
I have been more than happy with the full version of K4 and only purchased the full k5 upgrade so I could install abbey road drums which I thought I was getting for a "good" deal at %50 off.
My last question is this.. does installing K5 alongside k4 mean that I will have to have duplicate libraries for both? That seems like a lot of hard drive space ..

everything will work fine in full K5. If you install the maschine friendly updates to NI libs then those instruments will no longer load in K4 but will load fine in K5. If you save any instruments in K5 or batch compress, you will not be able to then load those instruments in K4.

thanks kb makes sense . so does the k5 install running alongside K4 mean having to have duplicate libraries?

So lets say you had downloaded and saved these full version libraries (west africa & modern drums) on a demo basis (quits after 20 min to test out before buying) and the libraries downloaded were for version K4 (before K5 had come out), do you think i could still buy as i normally would just to aquire serial# and use with my K4? Or will the serial# NI gives me be specific for K5 ?

No, K5 will recognize all your already installed libraries.

Well, if you have any projects using K4 in your DAW, they will still ask for K4, not K5. So you should keep it.
