I'm trying to do set up some perc. and I want them to continue to play out the sample after I hit the key. I change the sample in the loop editor to the one shot, which i thought accomplished this but it doesn't seem to change. The sample still cuts off as soon as I release the key. This is occurring when I set two groups to round robin only.

Check and see if you have an AHDSR or FlexEnv envelope on. That would override one-shot mode.

    Humm, is this true David?

I know I've had issues with this before but had no idea that the envelopes took precedence over the loop controller.

If that's the case n8tron and you still need the ahdsr envelope for other reasons simply set the release to maximum and you should get the same results.

You can also set the release to maximum, which achieves the same effects on drum-type sounds, but note that the max release time is 25 seconds, so if you've got a 1-minute long drone sample, you HAVE to use one-shot mode with no AHDSR envelope.

I will have a bash at explaining this since it seems to crop up often:

The envelopes are not really taking precedence. The "Loop mode" has precedence, in that it controls how the sampler plays back the sound. The envelope (the amplitude envelope to be more specific), controls the volume of the sound which is playing back. For the envelope to have any effect at all, there obviously has to be some sound playing back. However, if you turn the volume all the way down, then you hear no sound even though it may still be playing.

The reason this seems to trip people up is that the default release for the envelope is often short, which means shortly after the midi-signal has ended the volume gets turned all the way down, and you hear nothing despite the fact that the sound is still playing. As has already been pointed out - if you want one shot and you have an amplitude envelope you need to set a long enough release (or hold, in the case of an AHDSR envelope).

Technical note - I think Kontakt is actually smart enough to stop your sound playing and thus free up a voice once the envelope has caused the volume to go down to 0, since otherwise you're just wasting computer resources.
