    Yep, that'd be another solution.

I'll have to play with the limits, not sure how yet.
Maybe segmenting a song in 2 different Maschine projects and exporting MIDI patterns in Cubase when done.

Thanks guys for your input, it was really helpful.

That's another reason to drag & drop your patterns into Cubase, because you can rename MIDI parts.

Sure, but please remember that I want to use Maschine as a composition tool in the first phase of the creation process. I'd like to get more patterns to be able to experiment with the arrangement, taking advantage of the controller.

I honestly think you're the only person who needs more than 64 per kit.

But 16 pads, four banks = 64...you can do it all with the controller. Take it higher than that, and the controller doesn't work as well. Maybe having more banks is your solution, but you get the idea.

    Maybe, yes.

As I see it now, the problem is not longer about the number of patterns (64 x 8 groups = 512 and I could duplicate a group to get 128 instead of 64), but more about the 64 scenes limit. That's perfectly fine for composers who're using just a few (long) drum patterns in their songs, but that's not my case... 128 scenes, that'd be great.

How long of a song do you want though? If your 128 scenes were each 2 seconds (pretty short) you're already at over 4 minutes....

One work around would be once you have played around with 64 scenes enough to find something you like, then copy and paste them all into one pattern (or however many) & start again. I mean you have to commit to the song at some point. If you create songs on a 1 bar basis and every single bar bar is completely different aren't you going to need like 200+ bars to make an abstract song?

Maschine is limited to 64 and probably isn't for you. Maschine can't be everything to everyone. There are other programs which you can use with midi gear that will fill your needs. I'd sell Maschine & take a look at the Akai MPD26 combined with software. And I would really investigate before you purchase.

I agree with KDilla, how many scenes are you going to need? I've never come close to using all 64, nothing even remotely there. I think I've used 20-25 and that's tops.

Are you using a separate DAW? That's better for sequencing for something like what you want to do I think.

It can be between 1 and 10 minutes... From about 100 to 180 BPM (no rules, but usually in 4/4). Working with 2 bars patterns is fine, but I'll try to work with a mix of 2 and 4 bars patterns and see how it goes.

If a 1 bar 4/4 pattern @ 120 BPM is 2 sec, then I'd need 150 patterns for a 5mn song (I haven't taken into account the fact that some patterns can be played more than 1 time + I can insert silences ie blank patterns while no drums are "needed").

If using 2 bars, then we're at 75 patterns. That's why 128 would rule for me, but I doubt NI would implement a feature only needed by 1 customer lol.

    > awol9000: I won't be selling my Maschine just because of this limit. It's a great tool for me, no setup is perfect!

    > jfuller: I'm using Cubase since about 8 years, used Logic before and drum boxes only + an Amiga 500 with a 8-bit sampler card at the very beginning :)
As I said earlier, Maschine is a creative tool for me, very cool for creating beats and experimenting but I couldn't live without Cubase when it comes to advanced sequencing and mixing.
