with the mouse, you can change the values (ratio and offset) of the operators in three different ways (speeds) - with MIDI CC, only in one way. It is not possible to fine-tune those values through MIDI CC.

It would be a big advantage for MIDI controller users to have this option.

Fingers crossed. It would be nice if NI put it in the 1.04 update / bug fix, it's been missing for long enough!

really? I'm glad to hear that, I began to think I was the only one who was in need for it.

Yes I thought it was possible, I mean in the option menu you can tick a bow who say 3 CC's for Ratio...(something like this)

So it should be possible normalely but I couldn't succeed does somebody has succeed?

I would be interested to control thoses with external 'smidi or ID's with the kore..

    Cheers

yes! The 3 CC's for ratio tick does it!

Many thanks AcousmatiK for the solution.

Ok glad to hear that you succeded!

What are the 3CC's number? Are they predefined or you can choose the numbers you want?

Anyway, I'm happy to see that it's should be working , I will try this again..

    Cheers!

It looks like FM8 prefers succeeding numbers for the ratio, e.g. CC 21, 22, 23 for operator ratio A coarse, fine and finer, and CC 24, 25, 26 for operator ratio A coarse, fine and finer, etc.

In the Master view, under MIDI Controller Assignments, the CC destinations are "Op. A Frequency RatioBL", for all three (coarse, fine, finer), hence probably the necessity to have succeeding numbers.

While using MIDI learn, it is a bit confusing after you mapped the first (e.g. finer) parameter; the coarse parameter will react, not the finer. The same with the second parameter (fine). When you mapped the third (coarse) parameter, all CC's will work as desired.

It was not possible to create a functional Generic Remote in Cubase. I mapped three succeeding CC's to the same parameter (RatioBL), but then all three CC's move only the coarse parameter. Here, an update of FM8 would be still welcomed, to have better definitions of parameters, dedicated control for each of the Ratio parameters. And a chart would be useful too for extensive control mapping and automation.

But, with ordinary MIDI input it is possible to control the operator ratios as desired, if one does the tick in the FM8 options. This is very useful for me.

Good find Phil although the ratio trick doesn't work with offset.

AND having ticked "use OP A controllers for selected Op" in options I've got CC9 changing operators BUT the assignments seem to be incomplete, pan and velocity work but volume doesn't.

yes, with offset it doesn't seem to work.

I never used "use OP A controllers for selected Op" yet, but generally it looks like these parameters are not too well suited for controlling. There are no clear addresses for them.

Anyway, FM8 still provides a lot of controllability, and the fine-tuning of the operators is a big plus. I discover new aspects of FM synthesis with that, which were hidden before. I don't believe you could do that in a DX7.

Thanks again for your input guys.
