I would just like to share this info with anyone running windows 7. I used this setup from scratch method and it works like a charm for me and my fellow dj's and producers. After this I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Never had to run a Latency Checker Nor Monitor. Never ran any disabling scripts because my pc only has 5 processes running in the backround at startup.
My CPU stays at 25-30% when running all 4 decks with fx applied while running WiFi midi tools at the same time as shown in the end of this Video for proof. If people take the time to watch and follow this it will help. Thanks

Yeah technologies have moved on since this thread was started as well... a lean running lappy is usually enough these days.

The problem is most branded laptops come with a recovery proceedure that only allows you to default back to their original bloaty first install unless you buy another copy of windows 7

You can always download a fresh image from digitalriver and use your serial to activate it.. Nothing wrong with that.

Wow, really?? Hats off to NI you have really let a mountain grow from a molehill, what the hell are you doing lol. If I was thinking about being a controller DJ and saw this thread it would out me off completely.

FYI: my whole rig cost a grand - including Scratch Pro. If you take the time to read NIs excellent Optimization advice, you'll see that throwing money at an issue will not solve it. Period. That just makes the computer industry rub their hands with glee.

Just use you flaming noodle. If you need some succinct advice - because you are really that stupid - then: take you controller into a computer shop. Tell em what you need the laptop for install NIs software, drivers etc and give it a whirl. Yes, they will allow you to do this. Its no different to buying a musical instrument - which if done properly takes as long as it takes.

Mini PCs and MiniMacs are fine by the way. If you think about it, mobile devices aren't necessarily appropriate to DJing - just because we have to be mobile. If you have residency - then use a PC, Mac or whatever and ask NI if they will be flexible with concurrent licensing, Make sure the machine is on the venue's insurance mind lol.

Anyhoo dumb asses: once you have found you perfect computing device - find the best deal for it - you don't have to buy it from the shop where you just spent an entire weekend testing machines. Make it known that you are using a browser on one of the shops machines to price comparison hardware and they will bend over backwards to please you and sort you out with a good deal:) Doing research on wholesale pricing won't hurt also.

Ans the best part is: the sales guys see you come in with your hardware and realise you are serious, not try to sell a piece of soon-to-be-discontinued junk, or a 'business' device and who knows .. they might actually have a real idea of what you need ..

DJing isn't brain surgery and buying computers isn't rocket science ...

I have now migrated to MacBook Pro and all the issues relating to Windows only environment have gone away .. of course they have.. Tracktor was clearly written to work on a Mac as a bias,,,
