    Hi

I'm using kontakt as my main host for huge amounts of orchestral libraries even though we are able to use a lot of ram in macs or pcs it's obvious that kontakt loads a template faster if samples are purged and only get loaded once you start playing/ sequencing.

    My use case.
I'm hosting kontakt inside cubase/logic/studio one and the majority of kontakt hosted in Vienna Ensemble Pro (VE Pro). I've set up my VE Pro template and went trough all instances of kontakt(hundreds of them) and clicked on "purge all" samples and saved my VE Pro META as a template.
Now if I call up my VE Pro template and my cubase template everything is up and running fast thanks to all SSD drives.

But now I've scored a couple of scenes, maybe bought a new library like Spitfire Audio HZ Percussion and start to add this to my template in either VE Pro or DAW. If I save my VE Pro template I need to go through all of my kontakt instances and tell it to purge all samples. That is just tedious.

A preference for auto purge all samples when loading instruments in kontakt would be very beneficial in my workflow. Similar to the option Kontakt 3 had.

IIRC this feature used to exist, but I can't seem to find it at the moment, which means there must have been a very good reason for removing it.

    Look what i've found.

Kontakt 3.5 has that option. Why is it gone? For all huge orchestral templates this would be highly beneficial especially for people hosting their Kontakt VI inside the DAW like DP (David ;)) Logic and what not and use SSDs for sample streaming.

Its non existent in Kontakt 5.

One way to work around the lack of this option is to purge all samples in each Kontakt instance (Purge button on top, to the right of Files and Options buttons) and resave your project. Next time you load it it should load purged.

I'm doing it that way all the time which is time consuming. Kontakt 3.5 had no "load samples in background" option so as soon as you hit a key samples won't get loaded like Kontakt 5 does. Imagine sitting on your workstation for weeks just to save all important patches with samples purged and then developers like spitfire audio deliver updates and it's back to square one.

I think another option would be to integrate "load instruments with samples purged" into batch resave.

Batch resave is what I always do when installing a library. So when using batch resave there could be a checkbox in the second step to enable the purge option.

    Happy Holidays

Actually I'd rather if the option was returned where it was, in Options.

Great suggestion. I'd also love to see an option to purge all samples in the KMS menu. Some sort of display of total polyphony across all instances of Kontakt in that menu would be great as well.

totally yes. NI please give us the option back like Kontakt 3 had it plus when hitting the keyboard load samples like Kontakt 5 does it once samples got purged.

This would be a great timesaver when building and maintaining your template... Would be much appreciated!

One solution I can see is the possibility to send a purge all message through MIDI.
I see from another thread that putting it as a button in the GUI is out of the question, but making it midi controllable could be a huge benefit, for us guys doing the full orchestral setup.

Hi ! I am working with Logic Pro X and trying to use this purge mode with all my Kontakt 5 instance but it doesn't work as a template... example : I purged them all and when I use my project as a template and re-open it, my ram still completely used in Logic Pro X... Any ideas ? My Kontakt instances still in the purged mode but it still affect my ram...

Any updates on this? I appreciate it's an old post. Is the current solution still to go through each and every instrument and purge all? If so, that's a real pain. I also tried setting a preload buffer size, but some libraries seem to ignore this and load in full anyway.

There is now an option "Load samples in background". Hmm ist that just the new name for it?

No, that simply does as it says; loads ALL samples in background.

What loading in purged mode does is allow systems with less memory to theoretically have much bigger templates than they otherwise could, because when instances are loaded in Purged mode, samples get loaded into memory only when they're used at least one time. Would be a fantastic feature to have for us laptop users.
