You did NOT explain your sense of humor (joke) but perhaps there is nothing to explain because there was no joke? I consider myself to have a pretty good sense of humor but I totally missed it. But I see you can't explain it so you want to drop the subject. Okay, whatever.

It's one write and you're not losing them anyways. Perhaps you don't get that. OWC with their use of Sandforce controllers are a joke in the community and that's why you have third party programs like Trim Enabler. So it's not supported by Apple - big freakin' deal. Do you always do things according to the Apple Way? I sure as hell don't and my systems work just fine. Apple plays too conservative with their specs.

It's not that serious. I have a 2012 Mac Mini server, replaced one of the HDs with a 500GB SSD, and use the second stock HD for backups. My entire sound library (including Komplete) are on the boot SSD and i've created multiple large projects without slowdown issues. No need to take up a USB slot and have an external peripheral hanging off of your laptop. Your computer is plenty fast enough to handle it

Pardon me but would it not have made more sense to just get VSL and Link your MacMini and the MBP in order to have much more and efficient computing power?
You could have installed lets say Kontakt on you MacMini and connect 2 SSD's straight to it and install the VST's and your DAW on the MBP with also 2 SSD connected directly.

I am working on a similar setup (PC) and its working perfectly fine and damn fast.

Been there, done that. I still use VSL for heavy scoring with dongled products like EastWest, Nexus, Vienna Instruments, etc. My goal is to have a complete mobile solution separate from my mac mini. I'm in Tokyo this month...and I don't travel with my iLoks and eLicensers. So Maschine, Komplete, Arturia V4 and the rest of my non-dongle plugins are ideal to keep on my internal so I can create, mix, and render without extra drives...especially on a 13hr flight with a cramped tray and no safe place to rest an external drive (also having to get up unexpectedly to let someone go to the toilet ).

I will decide sooner later between the OWC 1TB SSD upgrade or a new rMBP with Apple's 1TB solution....i prefer the new mac for double read speed, but I the scheduled thunderbolt change and coming Skylark processors, I think the cheapest route makes sense as I can probably get by. I just asked if anyone else has done the same with the older model to get an idea of how it's performing. I know the current models are performing better read/write at the moment.
