Have NI tested Traktor DJ Studio on the new Apple OS due out at the end of the month? Is it OK to upgrade without problems?

    Thanks in advance

Good question but I can also tell you that after upgrading to 10.28 I have had plenty of problems with a lot of things.

Concerning TDJ, the problem is alarming. Several times when loading one of the songs into the deck - the song starts playing at double speed automatically! If I try and stop it - it plays in reverse!

I never had that happen under the previous 10.26.

So I have now stopped using TDJ for live use. I really hope Panther will do away with this crappy OS update problem...

Not noticed that problem with my PowerBook and am playing live tomorrow night so I really hope it does not happen to my system! No time to test properly either. Eeeeeeek!

    EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKK!!!

Sorry and quite worried to hear about your problems Mont! I upgraded to 10.2.8 a few days ago and I have one gig tonight and one tomorrow night.

Haven't had any problems with Traktor so far but I have to say that I am A BIT worried now. I'll start Traktor right away and run it for a few hours to see if I have any problems.

    (Keeping my fingers crossed...)

    Hi MONT-

I've had the same problem with double-speed + reverse playing, but this was before OS 10.2.8. I think it was in 10.2.6

Happened to me twice... live. No explanation, no warning. Had to switch to CD then restart my iBook from scratch.

No problems for me with 10.2.8 ( and they've released a revised version by the way)... but I hear people had various issues with the original 10.2.8, especially with USB peripherals and mounting devices.

    Hi yupa,

Oh no! I have the 2nd and most current upgrade (10.28 second rev.) and this happened just like it did for you with the older OS. EEEK!

I guess what that means is that it had nothing to do with the OS upgrades. That is both 10.26 AND 10.28.

I think we all need to hope that the new upgrade for TDJ will solve the problem.

By the way it happened only after about 3-4 hours of playing music....then KAPOW!

    @cloud,
I have been using TDJ for quite some time now.

What I meant was that WHEN it happened it was after playing for 3-4 hours. It wasnt something that I could have predicted by doing a quick run before a gig.

Before that time, (yesterday) I have used it a ZILLION hours without it happening.

At any rate it happened to Yupa as well 2 times - and he also has used TDJ a Zillion times without it happening prior to that.

The point here being - it CAN happen. Nuff said.

I just finished a 6 hour session with Traktor to try out if I ran into any problems with Mac OS X 10.2.8.
I'm happy to say that nothing bad happened but like Mont wrote problems aren't always easy to reproduce.

However, I realized that I too have run into this exact problem before. Double speed and then reverse.
Mont and Yupa, do any of you guys by any chace use a mouse with a scroll wheel???
I've run into this problem twice before and both times it has happened after I by accident have scrolled the scroll wheel on the mouse. This has only happened here at home since I never use a mouse at live gigs due to the fact that both my USB ports are busy, one with my EMI soundcard and the other with my MIDI controler.

    pixeltrance -

    scroll-wheel?
    bingo. That might be it.
The scroll wheel is buggy with some apps anyway, so I try to never use it in Traktor. Except maybe to scroll through the collection (since, face it, the scrolling interface in the T2 browser is pretty clunky(and for me it often triggers the preview player which I never use).

Usually the only problem with the scroll-wheel is that after using it, if I simply move the mouse, the mouse seems to think I'm still scrolling so I have to single-click on something to make the "ghost-wheel" action stop, then I can move the mouse as normal.

I have had the scroll wheel get bumped while it was over a playing deck - this caused havoc in my set briefly, that I didn't know how to recover from... again, CD back-up saved the day but it's too easy to trigger this especially without an obvious, simple way to cancel whatever action this is supposed to be... but I dont' know if this is the same kind of problem with the double-speed/reverse trick.

BTW - Mine's a Micro$oft optical wheel mouse(not cordless). Yes, it has the latest drivers.

Thanks pix. I think you're onto something.

Speaking of 10.3, Apple says that you need to have bought/ordered your Mac Oct 8th or later to qualify for the $19.95 update, but they are actually accepting earlier purchases. I ordered my laptop on Sep 26th, and the Apple web site still accepted my PB serial number for the update. So give it a try at least...

I normally dont use the scroll wheel but who knows I may have used by impulse.

That is definitely a possibility however.

I am going to run a very long test using "scroll wheel" hell to see if I can get that bug again.

    Good tip.

    Hi, Doc.
Nope its not that at all - never use syncro start or set.

Its also not the Mac Os.

    It COULD be electrical spikes....

Or it is what is called a bug in TDJ.

The only one to really have provided a possibility was yupa.

After reading his signature I noticed he had a Tex-mex burrito before every gig...

I think there is a connection!

    Its what you eat!:D
