Ok, if worst come to worst and I have to move, cause it's expensive in Phila, Pa, where? My roommate is considering living with his ill mom to save money and take care of her. Nothing is definite yet.
I thought , Portland Oregon, NYC, Toronto, and that is all I came up with.
I have come to the conclusion that there is too much crime and dirtiness in Phila. There are jobs but you have to commute to god knows where to get to them. I don't have a car and , with the price of gas , do not intend to get one.
Jobs in the Philadelphia vicinity are great for hipsters and other student-types living off mom and dad. I am a lot older and cannot be bothered with those types, as they do not care about sh**t. Terrible to work with.
I need to be in an somewhat urban environment, with lots of ethnic food places. A place to play and listen to some good music, like edm or stuff made with Live. Good bars, and fun, not uptight always on the cell phone ones. It just seems too narcissistic. I don't do well in the suburbs or the woods as I like to be conveniently located to stuff given my transportation options.
Finally, I am sooo broke and need a budget place til I get settled. :S

How about Chicago? There are plenty of affordable places to live with out being in crappy neighborhoods. It has everything you asked for and so much more, it's like there is something for everyone. Check it out.

I've lived here pretty much all my life and I don't find it to be expensive at all. I have a good job that's in the city. The city isn't even all that dirty or crime-ridden. Come on, dude.

If you want to go to NYC good luck. It's expensive and hard as hell to find a job, but if you can you stand to make some good money. Don't live too close to Manhattan but be close to a subway line. Don't overlook NJ (Newark, Jersey City, Bloomfield, Secaucus), cause it can be a LOT cheaper, you just have to deal with more transit. But even then it'll just be two trains at most and you're in Manhattan.

Have you seen south philly lately. Not only that , the new mayor Nutter, said it was filthy. The murder rate close to 400 a year or more? Come on? I have been on career builder and jobs are in the burbs or nj.

Maybe it's not the city with the problem . I've lived in south Philly with cheap rent a good neighborhood and enough gigs to make a living from just DJing for the past 2 years . And the majority of my friends do the same .

I live in South Philly. Sure, there's debris and trash, but you're going to get that in any major city. I'm looking forward to the citywide cleanup on the 5th of April.

The murder rate is close to 400, but they're mostly flash point murders (aka criminals killing other criminals). Again, any major city that you go to will have a murder problem.

There are plenty of jobs in the city. You just have to know where to look. Just because a company doesn't say that they're hiring it doesn't automatically mean that they aren't accepting resumes. ;)

I agree. I'm a huge fan of Manhattan, but it's ridiculously expensive. but you could live in Brooklyn or Queens or NJ for a lot less and still be very close to the action.

    what about San Franciso btw?
