    Hey guys!
I've bought my korg padKontrol a few years ago but unfortunately never really got to use it because I didn't find any mappings for nothing.

But now I just got an idea how to use it with traktor pro 2:

    Image: http://files.jathe.net/padKontrol/image.jpg

    Sample Decks:
    - The 2 bottom rows are to access the 8 Slots.
    - Without pressing a **** button they react like a “cue”. So they stop playing when you stop pressing them.
    - When pressing “SHIFT: Play” + SLOT it plays a loops or the full sound.
    - When pressing “SHIFT: LOAD” + SLOT it loads a sample from your browse list
    - When pressing “SHIFT: Mute” + SLOT you can mute single channels
    Loop recorder:
    - When pressing “Looprecorder Loop Size” it changes the loop size
    - When pressing “Loop Record” it records a loop
---- When also pressing “SHIFT:pLAY” it deletes the recorded loop in the loop recorder
    - When pressing “SHIFT: Load loop to sample deck” + SLOT it copies the loop from the loop recorder to the desired slot
    Knobs:
    - The left knob on the top controls Dry/wet from Effect 3 (I usually use a delay) (make sure to assign effect 3 as “single” and switch it on manually)
    - The right knob on the top controls Dry/wet from the loop recorder

    You can download it here:
    http://files.jathe.net/padKontrol/padkontrol_mapping.zip

What do you think about it? If you have any ideas how to improve it, I'll update the mapping.

    hey mate,
i haven't programmed the LED's yet. Until now it's all about the functionality. I'll try to programme the LED's as soon as I think that everything works as it should.

    Is everything's working so far?

    thank you for your response!
It's good to know that I've made this mapping not only for myself :)

Yes it is working, so in my case LED allow me to (if it'is work) display the states of the hotcues

cyrdecyr please tell us how to control the LEDs on the padKontrol with traktor, I have been trying for ages!

    Mattjay,
I am also doing a mapping for this controller but I am using different scene within the padKontrol you give the pads different uses. I have Scene 1 for Transport/Global/Cues, scene 2 for Transport/Global/Loops and Scene 3 for Transport/Global/Effect presets

I am also planning to get the use of the rotary knob and the other buttons on the controller by breaking out the circuit board to a microprocessor like a Arduino Uno so I can use the rotary knob for Browser and the buttons bellow it for Transport and Global.

I also haven't found out yet how to control the LEDs yet. But when I've got the time, I'll try to figure it out

    Siddy1200
    Sounds great!
At my last mapping I also used different scenes (but I lost this mapping somehow)

Are your knobs working? I can't even map both buttons in the kord editor.
But your idea sounds great :)
    Please share your results!

I have the nanokontrol but I am sure the led mapping setup is the same

first go to korgs downloads/support page
and download the latest Control Editor
(might as well get the latest drivers and the Korg Driver Utility also those are helpful for compatability)

Use the editor with the padkontrol plugged in
somewhere on the page will be a selectable box that is not a control maybe 2 of them.
Find the one that has an option for led internal or external choose external to use Traktor. Then save the settings " to the controller" "write"

Keep in mind this will make the controllers leds only work with a signal from software. So it is not lit unless told

Next is led mapping via traktor controller manager. I assume you know how to do this. But here is the basics.

Make an output by selecting "add out"
Choose the control you want"lets say play"

select play in add out it will have the correct led settings
    choose the pad you want.

I cant remember right now but I think you can press "learn" to select the pad. If not open the Korg control Editor and it will have a list of the cc#s as a reference.

Sorry if this is not a full tutorial but it is the basics of what is needed for led mapping.

On my Nanokontrol some of the function changing keys do not light up not sure why maybe because the original and "written" function are rewind fast forward etc. No "toggle" function for these type of buttons?

More than likely if you know led mapping and still cant get it to map it is the control set to internal mode for leds. Needs to be set to external.

Reply let me know if it works thanx.

I'll let you know how it goes mate.

My two potentiometer knobs are working, yes.
I have KNOB 1 for crossfader and KNOB 2 for filter on the active deck. To assign them in traktor I just click LEARN and then move them a little and then set it as a fader.

You don't need the korg editor to map the midi signal on the controller, you can set all of the midi signals on the board.
On the padKontrol itself, click [Enter/Settings], then click [left/Note/CC#], then click the [pad] for which you want to set the midi signal, then use the (rotary encoder) (big knob on the left) to change its value, first it goes through notes and then through command control numbers, you can use anything and any combination. But note, if you use notes the pad will be dark and then light when you press it. If you use CC's then it will be light and then dark when pressed. Also if you hold the pad the light change doesn't hold, the light is just a flash. BTW, to change the NOTE/CC# of the two assignable knobs, click the button next to it. To change the X/Y pad click the X or Y button under the big knob.
You can do the same thing to change the channel for each, also PORT, Velocity and polarity.

After playing with it some more I am pretty sure the LED's are not map-able :(
@zephry, there is no "selectable box that is not a control maybe 2 of them" in the Editor for the padKontrol ;(
I have tested the controller with a midi monitor and I think all we can map is midi out for the 16 pads, 2 knobs and X/Y section. (Also the [High Velocity] button sends some midi signal but it's not usable in traktor, shame, would have been a nice shift button...

One thing I can't get to work is the HOLD FLAM or ROLL button. They are light when I press them but they don't seem to affect the midi signal. I'm not sure if they worked with the original software because I didn't try those buttons then and I don't have the original software anymore.

So after my brief try at helping with the led issue.
I did a search on the korg forum and my suggestion definately wont help.
Here is why maybe search korg a little more about the PK native mode feature. But it sounds like a no go for led mapping...below is the what I read.

For whatever reason, Korg decided to make this a hidden feature. You can only control the lights on a PK when the unit is engaged in "native mode" which is done by external software. in native mode, the unit responds to sysex (system exclusive) commands to change any of it's backlights.
Many people out there are programming Sysex behavior with external software, be it off-the-shelf stuff that supports sysex, like Live, or visual programming environs like MAX an PD.

    @zephry, good find!
I have tried peicing together the information on the net about native mode and patching the padKontrol etc but there are too many broken links. Can you make any sense of it?

There were a lot of people working on this a while back, luckily there is still one guy who still is and has a free program for us (PC only though).

    Here it is:
    http://www.doktor-andy.de/joomla15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=99&Itemid=126

And here is what you need to do:
    Download and install Midi-Ox: http://www.midiox.com/
    Download and install midi-yoke: http://www.midiox.com/
Download PK: http://www.doktor-andy.de/joomla15/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=99&Itemid=126 (scroll right down to the bottom)

    Plug in you padKONTROL
Now open PK, 3 things will automatically pop open. One is PK, one is Midi-OX and the third is a pink temporary that goes away in 10seconds.
Now in the MIDI-OX window, click:
    OPTIONS > MIDI DEVICES
In the new window, look in the "MIDI INPUTS" section on the top left, single-click each these 4 things:
    padKONTROL 1 MIDI IN
    padKONTROL 1 PORT A
    padKONTROL 1 PORT B
    In From MIDI Yoke: 2
Now all 4 things should be highlighted and in the "Port Map Objects" section (bottom right) they should have appeared.
Now, look at the "MIDI Outputs" section, bottom left, click these:
    padKONTROL 1 MIDI OUT
    padKONTROL 1 CTRL
    Out To MIDI Yoke: 1
Now all three things should be highliged and they should have appeared in the section on the top right "Port Mapping".

Now close PK (MIDI-OX will automatically close with it, but if it doesn't close it too).
Now re-open PK, all 3 things will open again.
Now click the big NATIVE MODE button.
If it worked, your padKONTROL's LCD will display 3 dashes - your in!

Now go to traktor and select Generic MIDI for Device and make:
In-Port: "In From MIDI Yoke 1"
Out-Port: "Our from MIDI Yoke 2"

Now when you go to learn for a button you will see you can use the 16 pads + 2 potentiomenter knobs as before but now we can also map to the Rotary encoder (big knob) and the 6 buttons in the PARAMETER section of the padKONTROL (note/cc#, MIDI CH, SW TIME, REL.VAL, VELOCITY, PORT) and the two KNOB ASSIGN buttons!

Now reboot your comptuer cause Traktor was weirding out on me at this point until I rebooted.

The buttons HOLD FLAM and ROLL now act as "Scene" used to and we can select them to change the note that the pads send.
But they are not midi mappable.

SCENE, MESSAGE, FIXED VELOCITY, PROG CHANGE now change how the pads work like if they are toggle or hold etc...
    But are not midi mappable

I'm not sure what SETTINGS X Y and PEDAL do. But they are also not midi mappable

I am hoping we can change this so absolutely all buttons can be midi assigned.

Also there is a feedback configuration that allows for the LED's to be controlled by Traktor! I think even the LCD can be controlled! I am still playing with it and learning how it works, but you can see a video about it on the first link in this post.

All in all a very productive day that is ending with a big smile :D

P.S. In the standard config of PK, the two potentiomenter knobs send 4 midi notes each, 1 for every 1/4 of a turn. This is kind of weird. Go to CONFIG in PK and change:
Knobs 1+2 send (+Assign Buttons) from NOTES to CC.
Now they work as regular knobs (0-127) and can be used as a regular fader on Traktor.

P.P.S. Sorry for saying the word "now" so many times.
