Paint peeling off brand new Kontrol Z2 not even a week of use. As seen in the attatchment the paint where the fader is has been peeling off the mixer. I only been using it a couple of hours a day practicing and this happens. I love my NI products especially Traktor and all the controllers for it (I own an X1, F1, S4 and now Z2) but I expect better than this. If I pay $799 for a mixer the paint shoud not wear off in 4 days. The paint on my S4 never did that and I used that everyday for hours at a time cutting and scratching with it. This is a major issue for all DJs!

Not a "major" issue for me... but I do see your point.

I look at it like this:
Will the paint peel everywhere else in time?

Yeah, I am also curious if you used some cleaning solution on it's surface. Based on the image, it looks as though you rubbed it while trying to clean off the fingerprints.

I didn't even get a chance to clean it yet. Even if I did clean it the paint shouldn't come off. I cleaned my S4 Numerous times and that never happened. In the pic you can see the specs of paint that was chipped away. Guess I'm cutting and scratching too much for this mixer.

Two weeks and I've only got one bar left on the left hand side of the fader (where I don't scratch).

Yeah I been hearing about it more and more. I let NI know the deal and they want me to send my info and a picture of it. They tried to have that glossy look to it but it only makes it look dirty and the paint doesn't stick to it. Some people think its a minor issue but when a person pays $799 for a mixer it shouldn't have this type of issue.

    ABSOLUTELY!

I have 15 year old mixers that have retained their painted labeling......this is pretty ridiculous!

Mine's been fine so far, but I agree that it's not very good that the paint comes off so easily.

I've just sold a mixer that was over 7 years old and was used heavily for scratching and the fader areas looked like this: -

That's what I would expect from a mixer.

Perhaps they can sent out new faceplates with better quality graphics on them, but I'm not expecting that to happen.

I will say this in NI's defense the performance of the mixer is beyond what I expected and I expected alot. Appearence doesn't matter to me when it comes to music equipment. I had to reply to a blog where DJ's mentioned the finger prints and smudges that can be visible on the faceplate with "I don't care about how it looks I care how it sounds and performs". On the flip side to that faded characters on a mixer takes away from the value of it and maybe after 7 years a faceplate could get away with looking old because in mixer year it is, but not even 7 days and it looks old is an upset :(

Same problem on the N.I. demo unit, just watch the crossfader area.

It's pretty normal after soms years of abuse that the paint fades away, due chemical reaction from the sweat of our hands and the paint, but 1 week is unacceptable.

I wish someone from NI would address this. On the top left of my mixer (where it says Traktor Kontrol Z2).. Parts of the O and L of Kontrol were missing. It doesn't affect the performance of the mixer but sucks that I bought something "new" that looks "used" right out of the box and now two weeks later, it looks like it's been installed in a club or two years.

    I hear you.
Best you guys can do is contact support and let them solve it.
I think you all get new faceplates with decent paint.

In the meanwhile, try to enjoy your Z2;)

I have had the same problem. Lovin the mixer big time, but this shouldn't happen within the 1st week. Mine is 85% worn after 5 days of use which is disappointing. And unfortunately I am one the few with a bleeding crossfader, even after several software recalibration. Am awaiting a resolution from NI so will w8 n c

I got in touch with NI and I have to send them a picture and info on my Z2 and they will get back to me. I suggest everybody get in touch with NI and let's see where they will take it. I love my mixer and I am tyring to keep my fingers away from the painted areas and place them on the tip of the fader and knobs. :S Kinda disappointed and I hope we can resolve this and improve NI's first mixer of its kind.

Sent out my info to NI so lets see what's going to happen. I will return it if things don't get resolved and wait for them to fix this issue or the next mixer. Good try NI and sorry this had to be this way.

I submitted a ticket as well. With just two weeks of no scratching at all with this mixer I've got paint chipping and peeling in all fader areas.

    --------

I encourage everybody who has paint peeling or chipping to submit a ticket with a picture attached. Ni responded to my ticket and said the faceplate would be replaced under warranty. There is the issue of waiting for parts and since this is purely cosmetic I can be patient.
