So I have an S4 coming next week. I'm also in the process of reinstalling my OS on my PC. I have a choice between Win XP 32bit, Win 7 32 bit or 64bit. I have to wonder how much the version of the operating system is coming into play (or even processor type). Also.. some people are saying they have it working on PC after disabling certain things.. etc.. but at what latency.. The highest or somewhere around the lowest?

So.. For PC users, I'm doing a poll. Whats your operating system (+ system details) and whats your current working latency?

    CPU: Intel i7 920 (2.66Ghz)
    RAM: OCZ 3x 2GB DDR3 SDRAM PC10666 CL7.0 Platinum
    MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R iX58
PSU: Cooler Master Pro M 600W Modular
    HDD: Samsung 2x 1TB SATA300
    OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

My settings in the control panel are:

    Sample Rate: 44100Hz
    Process Buffer: 32 samples
    Output Latency: 5.3ms

When I'm just playing tracks, I only hit around 8% CPU usage.
While scratching it goes up till around 17%

Ya that is a good thread.. but my main question is whats your latency.. Like many threads, people don't mention their latency. When someone says its working but at max latency, thats not really working to me.. The latency is the true measurement of the success of the setup.. I hate to fragment threads, believe me. I'm loving Jug's answer above.. If everyone kept this thread technical like that it could be quite nice

    Asus N61JV laptop, Windows 7 64 bits, i5, M450 @ 2.4GHz, 4gig Ram. eSata drive for music collection.

Seems to work equally with or without tweaks, all latest drivers & Chipset installed. Bluetooth and Wireless disabled in BIOS for security purpose.

Works fine on all Sample rate all latency. BUT, It begin to give some warning @96KHZ & Process Buffer set as 96 Samples running all 4 deck & Sample deck loaded and running, FX on all track an loop recorder running and scratching both jog wheels. So really no worries to have.

I find that this thread is a great idea!
As I just got my S4 today and encountered some problems….
I had a dedicated PC laptop for DJ use, that I used for Final scratch 2…Always workt perfectly, until I installed S4 on this PC…MAYOR dropouts and total failure.
System: DELL Inspiron 1574 (or something like that) Core Duo 2.2Ghz (centrino edition) 4 gigs ram, ATI mobile grfx card, win XP sp3
I went into total panic mode, as whatever settings I used, same results…
Until I red the min requirements…I thought maybe it was that this laptop had a to low CPU.
I installed the S4 software on my everyday laptop
    System: Dell Studio15,I7 Q720, 4gig ram, ATI mobile X1400, Win7 64bit
Now it works like a charm!
    Sample Rate: 44100Hz
    Process Buffer: 96 samples
    Output Latency: 6.8ms

Haven’t tried other higher settings yet, I just used the default settings…Tweaking is for tomorrow.

    hey everyone...

    i have a 17 inch dell xps m1710..
    2.33ghz processor
    4gb ram--xp recognizes 3gb
    7950 go gtx video card
    windows xp sp3

i recently reformatted my comp do to see if it would fix my audio drop outs. before reformatting..my latency was around 60. it woudl then spike randomly into the yellow, and sometimes into the red...i used process exploerer...everything to see what i can change...so i gave up tryign to find the culprit and did a fresh install

loaded up xp.. loaded traktor...loaded songs...downloaded steam and TF2.

    updated all my drivers..

running a t a smooth 12-15 on dpc latency checker now! occasional spike to 100. but its minimal! no drop outs whatsoever!

    my settings in trktor
    41000
    96

    =)

Nice.. I have almost that exact same system.. except its a Precision M90 (graphics version of the XPS's at the time) and a Nvidia QuadroFX 3500 ... I started this thread wondering if I should install XP fresh or Win7 to get best latency. I think I'm going to install Win7 64bit. My S4 is arriving in 2 days. It will be interesting to see how our 2 systems compare.

[wgdavis78.....Id be curious if you tested running your system at 96khz? I'm going to start a separate thread on this, but I still believe running at 96khz benefits all the internal summing + effects even if using 44khz mp3's]

i do have my laptop at home but i am almost certain i am running at 41000 / 96. i will try the setting you asked when i get home

also if you do a fresh install...do not load the dell quickset...for some reason that really made my latency go nuts in DPC checker....maybe it was the power options as when you do install the quickset it adds more options for power...

as of right now i leave my power setting to always on...and i disable the widi card through device manager...acpi is running in process explorer...but i have found no need to turn it off or suspend

    =)
