I do not now, if it is mentioned here anywhere, but I did not see it, yet.

Deactivate indexing for fast search! I was angry about cutting of so many notes on my Laptop till I deactivated indexing and I did not have one more cut off!

    BIG Time!

Another one of those resource hogs that I never let on my machine!

Heavens yes. It's one of the few "optimizations" given for a Windows box by the optimization sites such as musicXP that actually makes sense.

How is this done on a laptop?

Right click on the drive in My Computer to bring up properties. Under general, uncheck the box that says allow indexing. See the thumb...

After you uncheck it, Windows will assign attributes to each file. You'll probably run across a few warning flags where it says they can't be assigned; just click on ignore all.

Thanks for this! It was off for my C drive but on for my external disk, so make sure you check all your hard drives. =)

I think you'd should disable it on Macs as well

Macs would definitely have a different (probably better) indexing service, so I wouldn't worry about it there.

Afaik, indexing accelerates searching, but to achieve this, windows is continously accessing to the HDD. Thus if you are streaming samples, it might happen that windows wants to access to the HDD and the notes are cut off.
