I remember applying lfo mod to the phase input or sync input of a stereo osc and it having an effect similar to detuning. But I tried it againg last night and it wasn't doing anything.

Can someone show me basic picture please, so I can see what I'm doing wrong.

Did Herw ever finish that 'complexsaw'?

You need a second oscillator in your instrument; otherwise you won't hear any difference. Or, just modulate the phase of one channel of your stereo oscillator.

I got it to work but it will only work if I put an oscillator into the sync inputs.

    What's that all about?

Just what I pointed out at the beginning. Changing the phase of a single oscillator will make a difference in the sound, but modulating the phase won't do anything unless either:

    1) you have an unmodulated oscillator alongside it. The sync input's doing the samne thing here, as it resets the phase with every cycle of the sync source
    2) the phase modulation's happening in audio range (Yamaha style "FM")

yes - still have to construct one macro. There are 9 phase modulated oscillators.

    the mp3-file shows the difference:
1st : only simple saw (no effect)
    2nd : complexsaw (no effect)
3rd : simple saw with micro space (some string accords)
4th : complexsaw with micro space (some string accords)

The interesting thing is that the waveform of complexsaw changes every period a little bit (see attachment)

Herw, this can be turned into a good song! Seriously. You can name it "saw development" or smth. :D

What is 'micro space', and what are 'string accords'?

I guess "micro space" is a reverb effect ensemble, which goes with Reaktor in its library. String accords - I think Herw describes the way he plays on his MIDI device or keyboard - accords are set of notes and strings is an instrument (with long attack and release as usual). But these terms has nothing to do with your topic, so don't worry.

yes - emulating strings is a characteristic example for phase moculation.

    Hey, herw!

Any progress on the complexsaw oscillator?

no - i have solved it for me but don't want to publish now. I am working on a new synth with flowcharts. There will be several new oscillators in it.
