I must say I have never seen such picky hardware in my life since I've dealt with FS2. Why would a engineer pick something that has that many compatibilty problems? I've tried 4 friewire cards now all on clean setups and all of them have atleast some kinda of problem.... One I have to disable my wireless adapter... Another works fine for awhile then for some reason the scratch amp driver start hogging resources..... The other of coarse is the NEC chipset which is for obvious doesn't work..... I'm really getting discoraged with this product. In the process of trying to get a more stable platform.. I'm sitting here reading through all these posts about bugs and problems NI and Staton are sposed to be fixing and I haven't see one update.. I've worked in the computer field for over 15 years and can say this is rediculous.. The whole finger pointing thing needs to be resolved or this product is not going to last. Everytime I play out anymore people are talking about Rane and I can say I'm really close to jumping ship... I've had this product since December and the reliability of it is worse that FS1 was. Who do we need to talk to to get this resolved? Cause this is ruining my outlook on this software?

Ok so can we start by posting your detailed hardware config, Make Model Etc.
MSconfig or coolinfo reports would be more than ample.
Include O/S / service pack levels you've tried.

Next we need specific details on the 1394 Adapters you've used. did you try the 1394 Driver fixes for XPSP2

Third We need details of what all the problems are. Where possible step to reproduce would be helpful.

If you have previous Support ticket numbers please include them. If you have never filed a support ticket please go to the support and do so. Be sure to speel out your IT experience, so you don't get inexperienced user responses back. If you clearly detail what you have tried you'll limit the
potentially already tried and unhelpful responses. Also make sure you place a link to this thread in the support form if you wantr to list off all you have tried in just one place. When you have your support form filed please post the number here and I'll let Friedeman Florian and Marius know of the issue.

From there we will see what can be done. Agreed, stability issues need to be addressed this is a good place to start.

    Sound like a good start?

    Phil

    I have the following.

    HP ze5385us
    512MB Ram
    40G Harddrive 5400rpm

The built in firewire port is a TI port which works good but there is a trick to getting it to work and then after installing stuff and update the scratchamp driver brings the system speed down to an un useable state. I've done the ACPI disable thing... Disabled the firewire port in net connections. Made sure there are no bridge connections. Installed the firewire fix... etc.... The TI port works great when it works but then for some reason after about 2 or 3 weeks of use it stops working and goes into slow mode... At this point I've tried reinstalling the drivers the patch etc in about 100 different combinations.

This is the reason I went out to purchase a new firewire card. The first one I bought of coarse was a NEC which did the lovely pop and click problem... This was a cheap ass card from CompUSA so I took it back and went back with the built in TI.... The problem then is the fact that once it slows down I can't get it to go back and run normal again without doing a omplete reinstall which is annoying... So yesterday I went to CompUSA to try a new firewire card which I got the Adaptec 1430a... Which being in the field for awhile and knowing Adaptec as a reputable company and from back in the UNIX days as a company which alot of people used as a standard. Anyways I got this card installed it after the recommendation from another post and got nothing but pops and clicks and cut outs... So today I take the adaptec card back and get a Compaq card with has a VIA chipset.... Now I get firewire drops every 15 to 20 seconds.... If I disable the wireless connection it doesn't do this... I check the IRQ's on all the setups and they aren't sharing IRQ's with anything...

I've messed with the built in TI port and like I said earlier works great which leads me to believe something is up with the driver cause the other cards the install acts way different....

I've used other firewire products and have never seen issues like this.... And can honestly say I haven't seen issues like this since back in the ISA days and OEM cards....When I was a manager at a computer distributor. And to be honst if I saw a product with that much compatibility problems... It got pulled.

As far as calling support... Your kidding right? Of coarse I've called support... Got the first level support.... Sat and explained everything he suggested try another PCMCIA card and said he have someone call me and never got a call....

I dj in a decent size club chain here in the area and also take care of all their computer systems and they've been wanting to switch to this kinda setup... But with a product with this kinda of support and this kinda compatability problems etc... I'm gonna be forced to goto Rane.... Which to me is sad cause I like the Traktor software - the problems.. And I like the features... But with a product that doesn't work reliably those features are useless....

This product looks like a product that is rushed to me.

For some reason even on a fresh install my CPU usage is 5 or 6 bars on the meter... and if I start loading stuff it's going above that... If I go into task manager it's hitting +80% usage.... Before I was getting like 35% if that... and 1 or 2 bars... I don't understand why all of a sudden my usage is this high even on a fresh install with nothing else installed... before I was getting alot lower cpu usage with everything installed.

Good news after about 36 hours straight of screwing around with this I've found the problem. Evidently in transportation at some point the daughterboard inside the amp came loose enough to cause some problems.... Not enough to make it not work just enough to make it perform bad.... It's glued down but some of the connections must not have been making a full contact... I reset the board back in place and now TFS uses 21 to 31% and only getting 2 bars.....

Ok this is weird... I did the whole reseat thing and it dropped the utilization down the way it sposed to be... And then I ran Virtual DJ and was messing around with video mixing and it was hickuping on videos a bit... So I went back and tried TFS2 and the utilization is back up.... I unplugged everything and then went back and tried again and my utilization is still up... So I tried to reseat the daughterboard again and it's still not stopping it.... I'm gonna leave it unplugged to see if it neads to discharge the chip overnight..... Either way I think I'm getting closer to getting this narrowed down....

Yes I do have Norton Internet Security installed... Think this could be related? I did unplug the daughter board and let it set over night and tried it this morning and it was back at full speed again..... So I've got it narrowed down alot more than it was before...

I do disable this most the time tho....I can try removing it and see if it still does this.... Its definitly something to do with the drivers programming the ScratchAmp or something....

a couple of things to try,

go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager, network adapters, 1394 net adapter, and disable it.
next while windows is running fs, hit the old ctrl, alt , delete. next, in windows task manager, processes, highlight and right click on traktordjstudio.exe and change the priority of the program to high, likewise for the scratchampcontrol.exe and see if either of those help your situation. also how many processes are you running might have an effect on the amount of power divided up amongst them(programs) and left over for tdjfs to run. also depending on the chipset in the laptop and how it routes power to external devices like firewire and usb, regardless of what firewire or usb device is plugged in, there just might not be enuff power being sent on the line, so when a routine in taskmanager starts up, power to the cpu is rerouted to it cause it has priority, and then programs and utilities get less power....etc..etc..etc..

i don't know if this helps you at all but it has helped some friends of mine using fs and using serato as well.

hope things work out for you.

Nah I knew all this stuff already.... And have done it all... The problem here is it runs fine but then out of the blue without even running final scratch the scratchamp driver and box will hog the CPU to a noticable state.... I've atleast got it where I can recreate the problem which is alot better than I was earlier... Too bad tech support has done a thing on this yet.... We're goin on 24 hours now.... Anyone got a number in the US that I can call?

After digging into this more I really think it's a big in the driver or the scratchamp... Most likely a problem with the code they're uploading to the scratchamp cause when the daughterboard is unplugged and sits for a bit and then plug it back in it goes to normal... And this happens on a few different firewire cards.

I'd also like to note this happens on a vanilla version of windows xp with the firewire patch.... So I've ruled out the operating system side for the most part... The thing I have yet to do which I'm hoping to get a chance to do this week is try this on another notebook and try and pin point this a little closer....
