    You've got a nice clean set-up there :)

I mostly play round my mate's house now in the attic and run gr3 using his computer (via reaper) so I only take my guitar and a lead.

If we play at mine then I feed everything into my Yamaha aw1600 and use my pc to run gr3 into it. Sometimes I'll also record the stereo output into another pc just so I have a straight stereo version of the session.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Real nice and neat. I'm down to a z.vex Fuzz Factory and a GCB95 straight into a Hot Rod Deluxe amp for my live rig at the moment :p... Bars are not the right place for laptops. A couple of questions, if I may:
Why the Boss tuner? Do you find GR's tuner unreliable?
Are you using the expression pedal to control parameters in GR or is it just a volume pedal?
Are the laptop and keyboard fastened to their support in any way?

If've been gigging in bars with the laptop for a few years. I like the boss tuner because it's off the 'tuner out' of the volume pedal (yes i use it as a volume pedal) and it's always available and accurate. I can tune while the computer is starting up, etc. I often have the GR3 window out of view while I'm manipulating Ableton and with the TU-2 I don't have to get back to the GR3 screen mid song to tune.
Industrial strength velcro holds it all together.

    Nice amp MRZOSONP!

I just got a Coda R Series III for smaller gigs - what a sweet sounding amplifier! Amazing how much sound that little box puts out. I tried plugging it into one of my Acme Low B2 cabs last night and it definately had the power to push the cab.

Overall you have nice clean rig there!

Hi, I see youve got an Apogee Duet there. How does GR3 with the Duet work together? I mean.. its usuable for live playing with a guitar plugged to the Duet? Latency?

    thanx

The Duet is amazing. It is the lowest latency I've ever had. I've never got below 125 samples with any other piece of hardware.

And when recording it plays back Ableton session that my old interface couldn't even play with the tracks frozen.

Thanks! yeah those amps are fantastic. The preamp is so nice and it gives me a global eq 'out of the box' so I can make adjustments for each room.

:D Let's just say that I had a close brush with bankruptcy one night... 'Course it depends on you and your audience. In my case, neither can be trusted. :p

    mrzosonp,
I'm going to be stealing your entire set up. It's perfect in it's entirety.
Right down to the Apogee which I will be ordering soon.

That looks like a great set up! How do the models sound through the acoustic image rig? Im a jazz guitarist and was thinking of buying a acoustic image claraus head and a Raezer's edge stealth cab with the tweeter and using it with GR3. Right now I'm using GR3 for effects only into my Mesa Lonestar. I like the laptop stand. Right now I velcro my Laptop to the stanton uberstand, its works pretty well and folds up nice and small. Here is a link to the uberstand.

GR3 sounds fantastic though the AI rig. I've been using it for over a year and I really like the sound. Unless you need a really focussed (loud) sound, I suggest you try the AI cab. It's great on gigs were you wouldn't be mic'd because the sound is really 3 dimensional and spreads out over the whole stage. I also have a Euphonics audio cab that sounds amazing, but it's twice as heavy.

That's a very nice live setup. I only use my GR3 setup in my home studio and my thought is for a live setup that I would need stereo output (which I'm used to now) - which means two of those expensive amps/cabinets. Any thoughts on opinions on what you give up with mono output only ? I've only used GR3 in stereo which is why I ask.

do you gig out at all now? Do you have a stereo 'traditional' amp set up?

All you'll be giving up, in my opinion, is your own personal experience
on stage. I have so infrequently played at clubs where they ran anything in true stereo that I stopped worrying about it. If you're mono out front the only people that are going to hear your stereo effects are your band mates and the first three rows of people.

Guitar amps are mono so every time you play with you pedal board and a guitar amp you're only in mono.

What I would do is write to versions of your banks. Keep the ones you have and then write a copy of them that's optimized for mono. Then take one extra DI with you to each gig (trust me don't show up at a gig relying on the sound person to have a piece of gear you need) and just ask him or her straight away, 'can we do this in stereo?'

If the answer is yes give them both sides of your signal and just listen to one of them your self on stage.

If they say no then load your mono optimized versions of your patches and don't worry about it!

Thanks very much for this detailed response. I am in a learning mode with GR3 (and Ableton) and I do appreciate all the kind advice.

Since music is not my profession, the extent that I play live will be jams with other musicians in a live setting these days, so the sound quality is really for us and potentially anyone who is around and cares to listen in. I am a full time "technologist" working in the industry, so music is just a a hobby/art endeavor for me.

My amp setup right now (when I do use an amp) is currently an Fender Deluxe (Reissue) and a limited assortment of pedals. I have experimented with effects out of GR3 (I have the full GR3 pedal board setup) and into the input of the fender amp. (bypassing amp simulation), with "mixed" results. I do not have a second guitar amp to do stereo output, so I do not even know what it will sound like, however, the monitor output from my KRKs out of GR3 (in stereo) makes my guitars sound incredible when using amp simulation from GR3. In particular I don't think anyone is thinking of using the Orange amp in clean mode for jazz, but with the right amount of digital reverb/EQ and chorus to slightly darken the tone I am getting some great results. I am also getting great results with the AC30 simulator (run mostly clean to very slightly overdriven). I do not use distortion much at all - I like a very clean, tube type sound and I get sustain through the guitar and other means rather than through amp distortion. Maybe it is because I never really learned how to play with distortion, coming from a classical guitar background.

I think for a GR3 live amplifier, the approach is to use a rig like you have, where the focus is more on sound reproduction (ie hi-fi setup) as opposed to using a guitar amp.

Hello everyone. Inspiring thread. I'm new to GR3 and have just started using the GR3 Session. I would like to set it up as a live rig as I love the tones I'm getting. Would I just need a power amp and speaker cabinet to do so? If I'm using a guitar cabinet (4 x 12), would I turn off the cabinet modeling in GR3?

Also, how well would it work plugging into the front of a regular guitar amp combo (or two combos to get the stereo signal)?

Guitar rig 3 sounds the best through a full range system like a keyboard amp or P.A. Speaker. Guitar amps or speakers like a 4x12 cab will not produce the high end needed for some of the effects and everything will sound somewhat muffled. Do a search on this forum and you will come up with some better sugg. for live use. I have used just the effects in Gr3 like they are guitar pedals, but some effects sound better through a full range speaker.
