Pioneer CDJ-400

Do you work on mac or on pc?
I'm with windows vista on a toshiba and in the traktor interface midi menu i can see 2 cdj 400 Midi but only one work
why? i don't know.
in the cdj 400 configuration i have got configured one midi channel 1 and one midi channel 2

 

I'm xp. we'll get it.

there are a couple midi settings pages (can't remember the names off hand)
1. the one page shows "usb midi controller" if i remember right, and you will have 2 of them listed, in the upper part and a sound card listed in the lower par.
2. the other page shows the midi settings. You need to select "load" from this page and browse out to the .tks file available from earlier on this thread. (this will put most commands into the midi settings window - just above the load button on this same page)
3. then adjust these settings as i mentioned in my post above.
4. i also adjusted the scratch sensitivity to 12% (control 16).
5. mess around - it's ok and good to get familiar with which midi channel does what(you can make any button on the deck do anything if you get familiar with this screen)
6. don't forget to save to a new file.

I will put up a youtube video on this if I get a chance, I don't think they are going to put native support into T3 unfortunately.

thats easy

thats the one that in the upper pane has

usb midi controller
(2) usb midi controller

make sure and double click in front of each to make the x visible in the left square.

nice mixer there, but what channels does it input to the setup?

perhaps that is your conflict.

maybe temporarily disconnect the mixer - restart T3 - see if both decks work.

 

for the mixer evo 5 i use the midi channel 3

 

I think the confilict is that the two cdj 400 have the same name in the interface midi menu?

i don't think so, mine says the same thing yours does.

what does your midi settings page look like?

 

Going through and doing this should fix the problem. Mine too has the midi controllers as the same name. If you go through and set the the cdjs to the corresponding channels you should be set.

Petermichael, where did you download the new firmware from? Ive been searching all over and I cant find it.

let me ask one "stupid" question. With other controllers there isnt any problem 2 control more than just one deck with one midi-controller.
But with the cdj.400 i really dont know, and i read about so much mistakes and problems of this unit.
Is it possible to control with one cdj.400 more then one deck into traktor?

And btw. on the japanese site , there are new drivers and fw update for the cdj-400.

 

yes it's possible, but i want to control traktor with 2 controllers, it's better.
i have configured 1 cdj 400 on channel midi 1 and one cdj 400 on channel midi 2. In traktor midi setup when i make the action learn only one cd player work?
in the midi interface menu i can activate only the two players at the same time

That is strange. Im sure you are but when you use the learn function your using it on the player you want it to learn right? I did it for each one and it worked for mine that way, I had traktor freeze literally about 50 times during that process though.


Honestly, when I was going through the first time and trying to get these to work nothing was working, the learn function wouldnt even "learn" anything, I had everything setup correctly and I restarted traktor and went through a couple times and it wouldnt do anything. A few days later I tried it again and got everything to work. So Im not really sure what to say, it could just be some stupid bug that carried over from the previous Fs setups, unexplainable things would always happen, and I hoped this software would be different.

Well I updated my Cdjs, one thing I notice is I couldnt get traktor to freeze now, so thats good. However the cue point still moves on the jog wheel, and has latency so thats still annoying, and now for whatever reason my pitch bend gets stuck in the up position. It would do that occasionally before, to fix it I would just push the opposite direction. Now it stays stuck completely on my ch2 deck, it is most noticeable if the songs are synced, then the one runs off really fast. I dont think the update would have anything to do with it, but idk.

As of right now using the Cdj-400s with traktor does not seem like it would work as a professional setup, more of something to mess around with, which is not what I wanted. I got Traktor 3 to go along with a Fs2 interface or Audio 8 interface, I used Fs1.5 with vinyls for the past year and figured I would use that in my cdj setup. After using the cdjs its easier for me just to use them alone, without any software, so I held off on purchasing an interface. I figured I would see how this works, and as of right now Im not impressed. Its cool to have everything work like this, but it really does not feel like Im in control of the music, and I dont like that. I get a free download of the pioneer Djs software since I purchase my cdjs from an authorized dealer, so Im curious how it will work. I really did not like the free trial version though, so Im not expecting much.

Anyone else have better luck with these? Is there anyway to fine tune Traktor or your cpu to work well with these besides changing the Latency secs and turning off your wireless? If I go lower than 10ms on my laptop the sound gets distorted, Im not sure why, it just cant handle it? Im sure if I could go lower it would work better?


I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 1.70GHz Tk-53 w/ 1Gb ram and 160Gb HD, using 2.0 Usb drives. Running Vista Premium, this computer should be fast enough to run pretty much anything I would imagine. I havent had a chance to get more Ram yet, thats the only thing I could see holding it back. Any input anyone?

I totally agree with you (right now). The cdj400 traktor combo is not a viable club play combination.(it would be downright scary).
What we are doing now is tinkering with a midi file, on a program that is written by a company who is actually "partnered up" with a competing line of controllers. It's fun, and I appreciate seeing it actually work, but midi code and usb code are not comparable, IMO.

Remember, this is just the first player to do cd, usb flash, and pc control all in the same unit. There is no software out at the present that has any USB direct (native) language written to play with it. Most everyone is writing such things as we speak, pioneer and rane are both refining theirs and nearing release. As a side note - Pioneer, with their budget and current domination in the pro cdj market, should be taking this software market seriously, they have the potential to easily become the 800lb gorilla here, and just dominate the software market. We will see. I like the fact that they give everyone who bought 2 players a free copy(that is a good growth tactic - if they are going to release a hot software). If they screw this up, shame on them.

At any rate the usb connecting versions soon to be released will not be victimized by the midi latency (the key is how minimal the latency will become.) But the player should be completely connected to the computer, as in the indicator light will spin in time, the display will match what's on screen, etc. That's why I bought the players. I am not going to even get worried until the first and second versions of software are out. If by then, I am not giddy like a schoolgirl, then I will be debating my purchase.

I personally haven't committed to any software yet. The features IMO it MUST (reliably) have are.

1. the ability to connect natively to my cdj
2. the ability to change from vertical to horizontal wave display (serato / dex)
3. the abillity to show more than 2 decks (traktor).
4. easilly modifiable configuration (traktor)

i'm sure my pb is that my two players have got the same name in the configuration; but i do'nt know how to resolve it.
