Place hot cue before sound file

Very often I run into a file which starts with a little silence which is the beginning of a beat however since there's a silence Traktor doesn't let me place a hot cue. Could a function be implemented where you would be able to place a hot cue in the silence before a track?

I often find myself adding silence in Ableton before a track exactly for this cause..

I have some tracks where the Beatgrid marker ideally needs to go in the silent space to get a correct 1.1 beat/bar count.

 

It seems like Traktor DJ 2 does something similar without having a beatgrid marker... hopefully it makes its way over to Traktor Pro?

 

this can be done with the help of a beatjump, put a cue on the first measure of the track where there is a signal and after do a beatjump into the silence back

 

^That is bloody clever. But can it beat jump to BEFORE the beginning of the silence in the track?

Isn’t this kind of thing what they call “Silent Cue” in Serato DJ?

It’s definitely something we need in Traktor.

I also find myself adding silence at the beginning of a track in Live before bringing it into Traktor.

 

agreed. We can do this today at the END, so you can put your silent cues there

If you have some space and a grid you can put a cue in silence before the first beat. Problem is where the file is cut too close to the first beat - I add 0.5 sec silence using an editor - fine for lossless files but if it's mp3 then you need to convert to lossless, add the silence then save as lossless. Converting back to mp3 means the audio has been compressed twice which will sound worse than the original file.

 

Just use an app called mp3direct cut . It can edit mp3 files without recording. Add silence using that

Unfort that's a pc and no immediate mac alternative I can find.

All of these are work arounds...
I would also prefer to have this native that a marker can be placed before the stream.
