Plans for making Absynth a "true" VSTi?

    Hi!

I got Absynth (for pc) last week and really like its sounds.

However - apart from the manual being too brief - I really don't like the way Absynth Engine runs in the background. This gives me the feeling that Absynth isn't really all that well written, at least not a true VSTi. Also, I've had Absynth crashing an otherwise rock solid Cubase SX/WinXP system at least twice. This has never happened with any other VSTi.

My question then is: Are there any plans for making Absynth behave like a regular VSTi, i.e. to do away with the separately running Absynth Engine?

    All the best,

    Magnus

its not a true vsti cause it has a seperate window? I dont know about that, but i dont think you'd squish all the controls into a little pop-up window.

    Hi!

It's not about squishing everything into a little window - big windows are fine, if and when needed. But: It's about a separate application running in the task bar. It's also about Absynth not accepting the standard way of VSTi program changes. It's about Absynth not being syncable to tempo...

Compared to FM7 which I also have (and Halion, Virtual Guitarist, even the freeware Crystal), Absynth really is odd, not to say weak, in certain departments.

I think it would be very interesting to have a comment on this from NI.

    All the best,

    Magnus

I also don't like the feeling, that there is an additional application running outside of Cubase. I like the fully integrated behaviour of the common VSTi's.

NI has demonstrated how to integrate a complex user interface into one single window (FM7, Kontakt, etc). So I'll be waiting until they do the same with Absynth.

I would buy Absynth in the moment as it behaves like all other VSTi's.

    I don't understand

i own absynth PC and run it in Cubase sx

    i have no problems

it has never been an issue that there is another app running

    ?

i would assume this is the best most stable way to have it run

    Hi Foolhardy!

The odd way that Absynth integrates (or doesn't do exactly that) in a VST environment has been commented on in the music press as well, SOS, I think, pointed it out as an annoyance.

But please, please, doesn't anybody from NI read posts on this forum.

It can't be impossible to comment on this, can it?

Actually i think if they have been able to separate the engine from the pluggin using some type of VSTi gateway they should extend it to run throught a network like system link

that way you could run your vsti's on separate pc's and control them from on central sequencer without the need for a separate copy of the sequencer on each pc

NI should implement this separate vsti gateway into all there plggins

    Hi Foolhardy!

However good your suggestion may be, I somehow don't think this is all a question of NI having succeeded in separating the engine from the plugin. On the contrary, it is more likely a case of NI not being able to integrate the engine and the plugin and the sequencer. This lack of sequencer integration is implied, too, by the fact that Absynth isn't tempo syncable.

I would like to know why this is, and what NI's plans are for the future regarding this.

    All the best,

    Magnus

    Hi again!

I think you may be very right in doing so. And I am not unhappy with Absynth - I knew all the above when I bought it.

However, I think it would be very interesting to know the answer to my questions, and find it rather disconcerting that NI still haven't replied.

    All the best,

    Magnus

    Hi Air Rider!

That makes 2 of us - I'm happy for your company...

I actually e-mailed Brian Clevinger the other day, asking him to reply to this thread.

To no effect, it would seem.

    All the best,

    Hi,

NI, including Brian, used to be very active in this forum. However, in the recent past they seem to have all but disappeared. I smell a rat!

But all is not lost. Brian is very active in the Yahoo Absynth Users group, with an involvement above and beyond the call of duty. If you don't already have it the link is:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/absynth-users/

There are also plenty of banks to download in both MAC and PC formats. They can be found in the "Files" section.

    'Bye

    Ray

    Hi Ray,

And thanks for the link. In fact, i already visit that forum from time to time. Somehow, I felt this question was more appropriately fired at NI on their homeground, so to speak...

Perhaps I'll pop over to the yahoo group and ask some as well...

BTW: What rat is it that you smell?

    All the best,

    Magnus

And a bump for NI to reply.

I emailed Jake Mandell as well yesterday, asking him to reply.

    Hi Ray!

I took you up on your suggestion and posted on the yahoo forum yesterday. Brian has promised to reply in a couple of days.

I'm really looking forward to it.

    All the best,

    Magnus
