Absynth is brilliant, the fact that it has a seperate window is the last thing id care about given how it sounds and performs.

    Hi Mojog!

If you read previous messages in this topic, you will see that the question is not that it has "a separate window". That would be ridiculous.

Also, concerns about performance are indeed foremost - as can be seen in previous messages as well.

I too think Absynth is brilliant. However, I am far from convinced that it cannot be improved...

    All the best,

    Magnus

    Absynth as VSTi

Absynth IS a true VSTi. All of the sound is generated by the Absynth.dll file. The other files (Absynth engine, etc...) are only used for editing the sound.

We've thought about making Absynth an "all-in-one" VSTi like FM7, but that presents other problems. Absynth has many more windows than the FM7. In order for Absynth to fit in one window with "pages," everything would have to be made smaller, and it obviously won't be possible to have more than one window open at a time.

We have had reports of problems with 1.3.3. Version 1.3.4 will be released very soon, and our testing has determined it to be very reliable. Hopefully it will fix any lingering issues about Absynth 1.3.3's stability.

But any issues aren't a result of the external editor, there could be many other problem sources.

    Best, Jake

    Hi Jake!

    And thanks for replying.

I agree that stability is the main thing. Since 1.3.3 hasn't exactly worked smoothly on my system, I look very much forward to 1.3.4.

Personally, I'm obviously a proponent of the "all-in-one" approach. FM7 is a great instrument in every respect. Absynth too is very very nice. What I really don't like with Absynth VSTi as it is, is the feeling it gives me of being a separate softsynth running in parallel to the sequencer. Coupled to my (1.3.3) stability problem it has not been a fully lovable experience.

    All the best,

    Magnus

Jake, you know it's not really true, that all of the sound is generated by the Absynth.dll file. Because if you close the external .exe file (the editor), but keep the VSTi part (absynth.dll) opened, Absynth won't play anymore.

And: as a Windows software programmer, I can tell you, that it IS possible to open new windows from within a .dll file. So a VSTi with a single dll file, programmed this way, would be able to open its own child windows.

    Air Rider,

You're totally right, that a VSTi can have child windows. Unfortunately, that's only possible on the PC, not on the Mac. Currently Absynth Mac and PC operate in the exact same way, and we'd like to keep it consistent.

    Best,

    Jake
