I have just installed the demo version of Sibelius 5. I use Garritan Personal Orchestra, which I run with no problem with Sibelius 4. I downloaded and installed Kontakt Player 2 to use in conjunction with the Sibelius 5 demo.

Since I have done this, I have been experience a problem with the playback in the Sibelius 5 demo. Note input is fine, with an instant sound of the note as it is imput, but playback starts approximately 5-6 seconds into the piece (ie the start is missed.) I can get round this by writing blank bars at the start of the score, but clearly this is not really satisfactory.

I recently installed the M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface and I wondered if this was the problem, but it works perfectly with Sib 4 and Cubase (both of which show no playback delay) and the only other thing that I have changed since installing the Sibelius 5 demo verson is Kontakt Player 2.

I have posted this problem on the Sibelius Chat page but no solution to this problem has been forthcoming and the latest reply says: "Peter, we've not experienced anything like this in the nine months or so we've been testing various versions of Kontakt Player 2, so I'm not sure what to suggest. Do the forums at Native Instruments show any similar reports?"

I would be grateful for any advice or help!

This is a long shot, but doesn't GPO depend on you moving the mod wheel to get any sound at all? And if so, is it possible that a mod wheel controller is not being sent until 5-6 seconds into the piece, and that's why the first 5-6 seconds are silent?

    Apart from that, no idea...

Thank you for your reply David. I don't think its a mod wheel controller problem, because the playback cursor doesn't follow the music and then produce sound after the delay, but it waits for the 5-6 seconds and then jumps to the correct point in the score. It is almost like the computer freezes for that amount time and then wakes up again! Since it seems to be a problem with KP2 (MIDI works perfectly in the Sib 5 demo and GPO and MIDI work fine in Sib 4 and Cubase), should I perhaps uninstall the KP2 and start over again?

You could try, but honestly I can't think of anything that would possibly cause this. Perhaps worth calling the Sibelius people?

Also worth trying different combinations of things -- Sibelius 5 with the original GPO (Kontakt Player 1), or Sibelius 4 with Kontakt Player 2 -- to see if you can get any of the other combinations to work -- that might point you in the direction of whether this is a Sibelius or a Kontakt Player problem.
