I don't know if rack extensions will happen for NI products, but merely comparing Rack Extensions with VST is an epic fail! Rack Extension could be automated and Routed like any other Reason Device, with CV / audio inputs. It isn't another plugin format, and as an Owner of both Propellerheads Reason / record /recycle and NI products I've to admit that Reason is a terribly stable resource free Daw that can't be compared to any other f---ing Daw on the market. Ni is a good company and its music machines sound very very good, merging the power of NI and the stability of reason could let NI product Owners Grow really much. I'm the first that will buy Komplete as it will be ported to Re format, as I hate ableton live and any other daw on the market. (xcuse my eng)

    :)

I worked with Logic, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Ableton Live and Cubase, but I need a better workflow! Too many clicks and no possibility to create really complex sounds because there is no combinator! Yes, I can use rewire, but I hate it switching between two (or more) screens and it is not working really good(sync, MIDI, Audio and saving is a mess!) My computer is really fast but the CPU display is still too high after 40-50
effects(freezing tracks is no option because I want to work with the VSTs without stopping the freezing before!) And they are complicated, not in a way how I cant understand them, I understand them well but in a way that my creative workflow is interrupt. It is a feeling like "I cant see the forest because there are trees everywhere".I need it easy and clear to be creative! And Reason works this way!

    No, I'm correct!
Yes, some parts like the GUI are some work but the rack extension format is nothing else than very related to VST. It is the VST format with some additions.
And the best part: It is a sandbox format, so if the device is not working anymore, Reason is still working.

Feel free to be wrong. ;)

Oh, and feel free to ask NI directly about porting their apps to RE's too.
Because then you will have a definitive answer, rather than just speculation on a forum.

The Props explained it to us.
They said, there is no problem with compiling.
No new code to write, just use the basic code and extend it to rack extension!
This is the truth and Sonic Charge and Softube made the first Res within 15 minutes!
Ask them, if you dont believe it!

    I have done it yet!

But discussing it in the forum has the purpose to attract attention about rack extensions! Some NI user didnt know it.
But many read it know and maybe they are interested in it too!

    OR

Propellorheads could actually allow Reason to play VSTi's/VST like a REAL DAW. :/

But why not make one ?
at least RE's are not pirated everywhere
    Reason is super stable,cpu efficient
and yes it is more popular than any of you can imagine .
Time stretch is superior in the sequencer
    Libraries or Refills are killer
Kontakt is already the size of the RE so why just not
I never ridicule an idea, but rather accept the reasons
why it can't come to fruition.
    Peace All
    --------------------------------------------------------------
    This would make DAW history

REs are FAR away from being CPU efficient. Check out some talks on KvR... even u-he mentioned that their synths are not ok for RE format because the format is not really CPU efficient (no multicore, IIRC).

So, forget about Kontakt going there.

I understand the difficulties- they would need to rewrite interface completely (it is about dynamic elements in UI), may be even the core code of plugins.
But +1 asking NI to make at least some Reason REs. I'm using now Reaktor, Maschine, Kontakt and Massive as External MIDI instruments with Reason 7 and I dream to have at least some of NI's plugins and instruments as RE's or may be something comletely new just for Reason.
