    Hi -
I spent some time with the A3 demo and purchased the A3 DVD tutorial, but now I own A4 and am finding it significantly different. I am however watching the A4 video tutorial.
When using the browser to find sounds, I am running ascoss a lot of sounds that produce a window saying that a wav file is missing and do I want to browse for it. Is this normal ? Are they missing or in the wrong place ?

I think A4 is great and I dont mean to whine, but I am finding certain things about it hard to get used to. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

    Dan

I've figured out how to find these missing sounds, but do I really have to do this for each missing one. I dont think I messed anything up and its kind of odd that I would have to browse for a sound that is used in the tutorial. Did I do something weird to cause this ?

It might be a good idea to rebuild the database in Absynth4, that usually cures it for me. Go under File/Options - Rebuild database.

Also, make sure that the path to the Samples directory is correct.

Thanks Joakim--- When A4 was installed, it created three sample directories at the end of the path: Absynth2,Absynth3 and Absyth4. The samples needed to use the preset sounds are scattered among these three directories. I just made a directory called ALL and copied the contents of all three into this and then told A4 that this was my sample directory. Maybe this is what the rebuild does ? I'll have to check into that. At any rate this has solved the problem of tracking down each sample. Although, I wouldnt expect a first time user to have to go through this just to do a tutorial. Seems pretty sloppy to me.

Actually I think you should be fine with just rebuilding the database as long as the samples are installed correctly from the beginning.

Have you upgraded from earlier versions?

Here's an explanation from the yahoogroup on sample handling in Absynth4 that might shed some light on the subject:

"Absynth will find the samples if they are in the Absynth 4 samples
folder. You can now have subfolders in the samples folder. So you
could copy your Abs3 samples into a subfolder in the Abs4 folder.
(Also in the update it will be possible to reference multiple samples
    folders. )

In the past Absynth could find samples if they were in the same
folder as the bank. In Abs4 there are no banks, so this doesn't work,
in those cases you need to copy the samples to the samples folder."

So basically it should have found those samples that are in the sample directory without the need to create an ALL folder. Did you do the rebuild before you started moving the samples?

So my advice would be that it might be a good idea to keep the samples in their original folders, and do a rebuild. Otherwise, in the event of an update that updates the samples, the installer might not find them if you've moved them, and might not update them accordingly.

    Best,
    Joakim
