I'd like to have a REAL midi sequencer within maschine,

as great as were the yamaha RM1X/RS7000 or QY700, or MPCs midi sequencers:

-complete event editor (with sysex, nrpns, midi in/out filtering...)

-midi routing to multiple midi ports, including physical output midi port of the controller, any midi interface plugged in the system, and multiple virtual midi outputs available for a DAW; in standalone AND plugin modes

    -ability to SEND PROGRAM CHANGES,

    -ability to record/play CC Automations

-more complete MIDI menu, and much logical midi options (why does the "midi out" option for a sound/pad appear in the "source" menu of the sound, if it's an output and not an input?, and whe are the "group sound midi batch setup" and "sound midi settings" so obscure?)
    ...

for now I find the midi implementation to be too much minimalistic,

Us hardware synths users NEED real MIDI implementation...

I precise that I'm in audio/midi music creation and live playing since years now, and I'm perfectly used to set up multi-midi-devices + DAW + midi hardware router + midi thru / filtering + midi multi-control, etc., and that with maschine everything becomes obscure in the midi domain... as I was beeing a midi newbie again after about 10 years of midi gear use... I have used PCs, synced RM1Xs, akai Z8 sampler, virus Ti, grooveboxes, midi controllers, ableton live, hardware analog synths, edirol um550 5-ports midi interface, virtual midi utilities like Bomes translator or midi stroke, etc.

But with the maschine I feel that Midi seems like an obscure ghost device, with little access here and there to ultra-specific and rigid params...

    PLEASE NI!

    cheers

I'll be happy to pay even 99 euros to upgrade my maschine with something like a "MASCHINE MIDI SEQUENCER PRO EDITION"...

I'm in love with the maschine for all the sample oriented music creation process, but it lacks the midi side of things for all the people like me that would like to have the maschine as the master piece for audio AND MIDI sequencing with external synths, like the MPCs or the yamaha's.

Ready to pay for that ideal audiomidi workstation update from you, NI!

    cheers

    Agreed 100%
I want to purchase one but, I'd like to use it as my primary
midi sequencer for hardware as well as VSTi's.
I would pay a lil extra for better MIDI implementation.
Man, I want to pull the trigger this baby..... But, I'm going
to wait and see what they do as far updating their software &
    or upgrading their hardware.

+1 This is absolutely essential. Full midi implementation. Like a real sequencer.

Mr. Muhsheen is 100% for a REAL SEQUENCER!

Great post and well stated and explained. Man it was like you were inside my head and posted this blog before me. But that's O.K. it is dead on. I use the YAMAHA RS70000! Man a lot of cats slept on this hardware sequencer. It is my secret weapon. Now Maschine is the future don't get me wrong just MAKE IT STRONG! nuff said!

    + 1.5

I take it, we didn't get our sequencer included in
    the 1.5 update.?

The NI website says one of the new features of Maschine is:

Extensive MIDI I/O: sequence your external MIDI gear with MASCHINE and vice versa

but I can't find any other info anywhere.

Does anyone know what the deal is?

If Maschine is really a viable option for us hardware people too, I think Maschine will get a lot of new fans. I know I'd buy one.

update 1.5 adds 'control change support',

so we could at least be able to record and play CCs from maschine's patterns,

but I don't see the CC menus anywhere (the pattern modulators menu is unchanged from 1.2...)

this "CC support" and Host automation support go in the right direction, but we're not yet in front of a real midi sequencer,

and fact is that Ableton live doesnt receive separate midi channels from the VST, it only receives a blend of all maschine midi channels merged data, ableton live still needs some improvement on this side...

NI, we need a REAL midi sequencer, AND the ability to use multiple physical AND virtual MIDI ports in both standalone AND plugin mode!

    cheers

"Extensive" is a bit exaggerated... its much more a "minimal" MIDI I/O (only one port)

you can set each pad to route midi out, and you have the choice of 16 midi channels (not that bad)
so yes you can sequence your hardware synths within the maschine

but where are the CCs automation lanes?

I have a lot of hardware as well as vsti's....
I can't imagine myself putting everything thru
    one midi output..... Oh well.
Maybe we'll get it on the next update.

the only MIDI CC's supported are three hardcoded messages
    (pitchbend, modweel, and sustain pedal).

then I don't see what's new in this department with the 1.5. update? pitch bend, modwheel, etc. were already available in the 1.1 update...

Midi Continuous Controller isn't CC ?

    I don't get it, NI!

anyway, still a great free update!

    +1,000,000

    and a million more.

Maschine is damn near PERFECT......... if it only had a sequencer which could automate scene changes, part mutes..... in essence, making a SONG!

    @ TheMixtape:

you're asking for a better SEQUENCER, but not especially MIDI.

we need a better MIDI sequencer, so as to be able to sequence and control EXTERNAL synths and devices (software, hardware...)

    anyway, thanks for your support!

    cheers
