Two potential concerns that I have are:

    1. Will carrying the foot pedal midi information with/on the audio channel compromise the audio quality?

    2. Dynamic guitar playing usually uses the foot controls (pedal) extensively, will this result in a lot of zipper noise as the controls are changed in real time?

How would all the guitar players rate this product in comparison to Amplitube and the Roland hardware VG-88(v. 1 or v. 2)?

    no worry

    hi silver

the guitar rig pedal doesnt use MIDI, the parameter data is transfered on a dedicated audio channel (eg guitar signal is on the left channel and the parameter signal is on the right channel) so there is no interference with the guitar signal.

I have nothing but GREAT things to say about the Rig. I used a POD 2.0 and eventually replaced that with Amplitube, which was great but somewhat unstable for me.

Guitar Rig is hands down better, albiet rather expensive... But it really is worth it. It's a Guitar Tweakers DREAM!

Also, no worries about the foot controller, it's seamless without zipper noise. My favorite thing to do is use the split module to create to seperate channel strips and use the foot controller to 'Wah' between them. Great stuff!

    Enjoy...

i wonder about GR AS WELL

When using GR is it possible to play two guitars through it
say me and my other guitarist and have different effects
1 set of effects for me and 1 for him, and have each guitar go out into thier own amps(cabnets)?

also straight up is it worth the full price and is there a demo?

    hi dopefree,

yes, it is possible to use guitar rig with two guitars and complete different sets.
everyone can choose his own effects, amps and cabinets.
    it´s a very natural feeling.

now we are cooking with steam

    im exited but...

how will the demo work without the footswitch?

    Midi?
???? idontknow, why would i ask if i knew?

    I should just buy it

does any1 know about NI's return policy"?

On a more wild note. when software such as guitar rig
gets scratched after use for a while, does NI offer another copy free of charge granted the 1st copy is sent back to them???

furthermore. Is GR totally customizable? for example
can i get thousands of DIFFERENT METAL SOUNDS from it.
also is it possible to make my guitar sound like a PIANO?

ALSO IF I BUY GUITAR RIG CAN I BE A

    MODERATOR? HERE?

THAT'D BE SWEET I WON'T LET ANYONE DOWN
i'LL PROBABLY BE A MASTER AFTER TWO WEEKS!

I haven´t tested this product. But, the GR users lib and the GR forum sound promising. Allready my instant favorite of all NI forums. Hope this product meets its demands.

Nothing beats real live performance! Way to go NI!

    hi dopefree,

it is possible to use the most components without the foot control.
the foot control pedal is important for the wah wah, volume pedal, etc...

without the foot control you have to skip through the presets by your mouse. (up/down buttons)

you can create your own thousand metal sounds, use the preset banks or visit the guitar rig user libary, to download many new presets from the users, sorted into differnt styles.

i think at the moment there is no preset that let your guitar sound like a real piano. but it is possible to create presets that let your guitar sound like something complete differnt...just noise or like a
    synth for example.

    GR review

First off, here is what I posted in another reply on "tonal quality and realism":

"I'm a session player here in Nashville, TN. This past week I brought in my laptop loaded with Guitar Rig and a DIGI 002, along with my usual setup of vintage guitars and amps. I split my guitar signal with a DI box and routed that in to Guitar Rig and into the console, just mono. I ran out of the DI into my pedalboard and then into a Vox AC-15 mic'd up and routed thru a Neve mic pre. With both being recorded at the same time I was able to directly compare the two, as was the engineer, producer, and other musicians. Everyone was floored at how good GR sounded- especially me! The Vox amp emulation is so good! I came up with a amp/speaker/eq combination that day that I know I'll use a lot on future work."

In addition, I love the fact that you can map out all the parameters to be controlled by midi. At this particular session I took a PC1600x MIDI controller. I mapped out 10 or 11 effect bypasses on it. I've also used my Oxygen 8 to control on/offs and to do parameter control. Because of the learn function in the control section, you just hit a note on the keyboard or midi controller and then assign it to the parameter. It couldn't be easier. You don't have to carry around a chart of controller numbers (like I have to do with Reason)- there's no "Let's see, which cc changes the cabinet type?!?!"

I use a 1ghz g4 laptop. For complex effects rack, I wouldn't go much lower on the cpu speed. Otherwise you'd have to set the latency higher than 11 ms. I measured the Line 6 POD. It had a latency of around 9 ms. That's tolerable for some people, but not for others.

Also with the PyschDelay, I'm finally getting to use octave/reverse shift effects like I had with my Eventide H3000 harmonizer that I sold. That is a great effect for creating complex pad sounds.

All that having been said, there is NOTHING out there that compares to Guitar Rig. I bought Amplitube when it first came out, then I bought Amplitube Live, and then got the light version with my DIGI 002. Guitar Rig smokes its! It beats out my Yamaha DG Stomp, my VG-8, my VG-88, my POD, and the other software based modelers that I've owned or used (including TDM Amp Farm.)

You can check out my non-virtual setup at:

    http://www.palmerdirect.com/Jerryrig.html

That will give you an idea of where I'm coming from and how I use gear in the studio.

    Peace!

    Jerry's Review - I second that

Jerry refers to a couple of new components (Vox amp, Psychdelay and also a Whammy Pedal) that will be in the v. 1.1 release due in the next week or so...hopefully NI won't slap us for violating the NDA on this...but I can confirm that Guitar Rig is the real deal. I have use GR on 2 sessions, TV stuff in Los Angeles - just took my G4 PowerBook, a Metric Halo Mobile IO and a couple of guitars - everyone was happy, especially the engineers and composers who are on deadlines and working fast. I may be putting my POD on eBay soon...

    Violating NDA

I think we're okay to talk about the fourth amp model. The NI site sez:

"After registering GUITAR RIG you'll get a fourth amplifier plus additional effects as a free download."

But your point is well taken. I'll try to be more careful.

    These additional downloads ROCK!

BTW, is the Kontrol pedal shipping with GR? How are they working out?

Wow a Vox amp and a Whammy Pedal. I can hardly wait to hear how the vox sounds. Very cool addition. Though I'm the most curious about the whammy pedal.

I own a digitech whammy pedal. I hope they emulated the RED version instead of the current black models. Unless there is a version I don't know about. The red was the first to be released and everyone swears that its the best sounding one. The black one just had a different tone/character to its effect. Maybe due to a production issue??? I'm not sure.

    Looking forward to it.

    Btw...How about a soldano 100watt...;) [I love my soldano 100watt]

This was an old thread... but I believe the Whammy is the red model. This is great for those who like it but I'd rather have a better pitch shifting model. Check the demo.

    Lol...

Tooo much OT ...Man I need to spend more time in GR 2 because I haven't noticed the whammy. Been busy trying to create a comfortable rig to call my own.

My gear here is a soldano 100watt to a Marshal 4X12 and LeeJackson 4X12. Using a shecter diamond series 7 string.

    Thx. Will look into it.
