Hi, I use Artist Drums inside of Kontakt 2.1. I love the sound of the samples and can great performances in all but one area. I want to be able to use midi cc messages from my DrumKat/Hat Pedal to give me more realistic control/performance from the hi hat sample groups in the hi hat instruments in Artist Drums.

I just got the Kontakt 2 tutorial DVD and I noticed there are sections on both use of the Midi CC module in K2 and a section on controlling groups. I want to combine the two so I can get realistic sounding hi-hat performances. I can set out and try to figure this out for myself, but you guys know this stuff better than me. Can you create something like that? You may want to insert this type of functionality into Battery as well. You're doing more for guitar and bass players these days. Please remember the acoustic and electronics drummers too. Thanks!

I think you may find that scripting may accomplish what it is you are looking for. I've used scripting to get some more hi-hat control, and there was a thread here a while back in which a script was posted that did a couple things.

Thanks for the point in the right direction. I'll look for that thread and the script that was posted. I really need something that I can just drop right into my Kontakt drum set up and play. I'm on a tight schedule to launch a music for picture venture in less than a month, and there are some e-drum tracks that I want to re-cut. Goatherder? That sounds so much more peaceful than my Wall St. dayjob. I'm envious. Thanks again, and all the best! Anthony

    Hi, C,

I've invested a bit of time, and I haven't been able to locate that thread or script. Do you know if there's a way to search forum threads based on topic? After sufing over 75 pages of posts, my eyes hurt!

Also, if you or anyone else on the forum would be willing to design a solution for me, I'd be happy to pay for the service.

    Thanks again...Anthony

There's a 'search this forum' link in the upper right of the main Kontakt forum. I just tried looking for that thread, but I couldn't find it. If I remember right it had to do with being able to use a pedal to play the foot hihat sample, with then a single key controlling the hihat and playing hhopen or hhclosed depending on pedal state. Or maybe I just wrote a script to do that based on some other discussion involving triggering stuff. I think I decided that it wasn't so hot since there was no velocity control on the foot pedal and that what we really need is velocity sensitive foot pedals and that I needed to get a velocity sensitive pedal board if I wanted the method to work. I also messed with having the mod wheel crossfade the hi hat sample groups to create effects of playing on the bell or edge or in between. I wasn't really able to get it to sound great like the Roland R8 drum machine sounded and finally put in in the pile of stuff to work on later. I am assuming that you want something like this, but I'll leave it to others to do a proper implementation of it.

    ...

Hey, I was just poking around and I noticed that if you take a look at the factory samples there is a Acoustic Kit called "Meaty Kit (Mod-HH)" which already does this and with no scripting!!! It has 4 different hi hat samples played differently and each is assigned to a different range of the mod wheel. This is all set up using the "group start options" which have 'on control' set up with CC #1 !!

That's much simpler than using a script. The factory patch there might give you exactly what you need with no modification and if not, it shows you how to set up what I am assuming you want fairly easily.
