I am running Maschine 2 (i have the latest upgrade) on a brand new (3 months old) PC w/8GB RAM running Windows 8, which I bought specifically because I wanted to have plenty of power to run Maschine. However, any time I open Prizm, and lately even Massive, the CPU icon at top right of MAschine screen maxes out and my sound starts cutting out. I cant even play the projects that came with the Lazer Dice or Halcyon Sky expansions. But every original project I am working on is seriously small; one drum kit, one instrument like a piano, and one to two instances of Massive and these even cut out and show topped out CPU usage. I have checked buffer size, I am running latest version of ASIO4ALL, sample rate is where it is supposed to be. When Maschine is showing maxed out CPU on screen, task manager shows that Maschine is only using less than 30% CPU. Anyone have any clue as to what is happening?

    What is the buffer size?

Mine maxes out fast if I use ASIO4ALL but I can have large projects when I'm using Komplete Audio 6 audio interface. Idk why it says it takes up a lot if CPU in Maschine software but task manager says otherwise. I've wondered that for a while

Hmmm. And your sample rate? Is it a laptop? Is it in a low power profile?

Sample rate is standard 44100 (or whatever). Not sure about power profile. But it happens even if Maschine is the only program running. Every time Prizm opens. And sometimes with Massive depending on the sound. Tends to be worse when using higher pitched synths or arpeggiater types sounds.

Confirm you are running 2.0.6 (click on the Maschine logo in the GUI) - and pls confirm what processor your computer has?

IM also having problems with my cpu in 2.0.6, Im running mac osx 10.7.5 and sample rate is the same as above, I have 4g ram as well as a 2.4 Ghz intel core 2 duo. I just got everything installed last night..and when I go into sampling on the studio hw, As I cut through the sample, it flashes and just looks like its cutting out, so I checked my activity monitor and it seems maschine is running 70%-85%
Im super bummed this is happening.. Is there anything you guys can recommend to help fix this? My hard drive is halfway full, should I go about deleting everything I dont use and see if that helps at all?

Same issues as above on a 2.3 i5 MacBook with 8GB running Mavericks... As soon as I got like four or more plugins it starts glitching...

I reinstalled my laptop (needed to be done anyway) but that didn't change a thing...

wow, even with 8 gig ram?? thats odd.. Im hoping there is a fix for this, or at least an explanation. idk what to do! I just made an appointment to go meet with this mac specialist to see what can be done, Idk if i should upgrade my hd or what. But this is very unpleasant, I havent even tried to run a vst because i know it will just freeze out if I do. someone, point us in the right direction!!

I want to know why CPU will max out on the CPU bar inside Maschine software, but when you look at task manager it's only actually using like 30%. I can have some decent sized projects but I feel like I should be able to do so much more. I have a i7 2.4 Ghz processor and 12 GB RAM. I'm using Windows though

the cpu level must be showing one core only.......or m2 is not really multi-core... i cannot see any place in the prefs to set for single or multi core use...

quit your internet browser... anything you have running in the background takes resources, and browsers consume quit a bit. .. turn off virus software.... quit file sharing... the other is leave 25% of the boot drive free no matter how much ram you have.. and last, use and external drive for large samples that cannot load into ram... both reaktor and massive can take a load.. but you should be able to run more... though it opens faster, i notice that on my new latest and greatest macbook pro with m2 i can only run the same as i could on my old duo core macbook pro with m1.8, which did not support multi-core...... but on my xeon, m2 runs great as expected.. i think the mobile i series processors are not designed for continuous (server type) use like a xeon is, the i7 extreme is supposed to solve this.

Sorry I was away for so long. Thanks for all the responses, by the way. To clarify, my processor is a CORE i7. I have 8GB RAM. Laptop is 3 months old.

I actually was just trying to make some music in Maschine just now and it started cutting out to the point that I had to just close it down. I had NO instances of Massive open or Prizm this time. I had maybe 3-4 instances of the Supercharger compressor open, one bass sound from the Maschine 2.0 library, one piano from library, and not even a complete drum kit open for this song. And still crazy CPU usage within Maschine while task manager says its only running 20%.

Hey one thing to do is set your power settings to performance mode or whatever it is on Mac. It's usually on energy saver by default. Changed mine dramatically. Still seeing what else I can do.

great article! .. most of my problems in the past have been from usb drivers working against each other is some way.. .. my latest being the flash drives causing havoc on the usb bus in os 10.7... another culprit i found is network drives and connections..

I think you mean in Activity Monitor? Around 150%, which is quite a lot for a CPU with 2 cores...

As far as I know a MacBook is always on 'Performance mode', at least when it's plugged in... I never encountered something like the power profiles you see on some Windows laptops on the MacBook....
