Hi newbie here so excuse any ignorance. I searched first but couldn't find an answer to my issue.

I'm using an ESP Ltd Truckster into GR3 via the Kontrol Edition 3, with a new MacBook Pro with 4GB ram and 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo processor (fast).

When I'm playing and outputting back through the Kontrol Edition into my headphones I have no problems, everything sounds fantastic.

But when I record into tape deck two, all my recordings pop intermittently. I've attached a screenshot of my settings and a sample recording, with the pop at 22 seconds (please excuse the terrible playing I am an absolute beginner).

Anyone know how I can get rid of these pops please? Thanks in advance.

    Dorian.

    Hi!

I have the exact same problem, on an older 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro as well as on my 2 GHz macmini. Both with MacOS 10.6. (which is most probably what you are using). Maybe a problem with 10.6 (I'm too lazy to install and try on 10.5), but on the other hand recording in Logic 9 works fine.

I already sent a message about this to NI directly, (4 days ago), so far I got no reply.

If you are bored you could try the latest beta version. I did one test recording and there were no dropouts in the first minute. Too early to say that the problem is fixed though...

NI replied that the issue is with GR3 and 10.6. I tried GR4 demo and the issue is gone. They refuse to give me a free GR4 or for GR3 - mother****ers! So I will have to pay to upgrade...

i have been having this same trouble with Mac 10.5.8 and GR4 (not the public beta). i contacted technical support quite some time ago and never got a fix or work around. it's gotten to the point where i don't even use the Tape Decks anymore because of the random pops. i think it's a great feature, but useless in my book if the quality of the recording suffers. anyone finding a workaround or suggestions for a fix please post!

If you upgrade to 10.6 I think your problem will go away, FWIW....

Not for me. I see the same problems with Guitar Rig 4 and 10.6.2.

People, I know it's extreme, but, you could try boot-camping those lappies and sticking winxp on and seeing if it helps your work-flow. I don't see any point in relying on os updates if theres a working os. Winxp is old and works great for what we do. Heck, if you still want shiny, then, go for win7. But, letting an os hold you back from recording is just silly.

Btw, the upgrade price is the same as a single pedal so it's actually worth it. Take your pick, but, it's definately a nice "update".

i have a macbook pro running GR4.0.7 and OSX 10.6.3 ... mid-2009 model, 2.53ghz/4gb ram. whether i run it as a standalone app or ableton/protools plugin, or using my digi003 or rigkontrol as an interface, i get pops and drop outs on my deck2 recordings.

it's very annoying. i like to use that feature to archive riff ideas but the constant dropouts are driving me crazy.

i can see the timer on deck2 stagger/pause at the exact moments that audio seems to be dropping out.

would love to hear an official acknowledgement of this problem.

Cyrus, with those specs you should be getting no problems at all at 44.1/48Khz 16/32bit ASIO at 4ms for real-time in normal quality and high for most.

I'd seriously question the os choice because it's holding you back as far as getting a working GR4 setup. I would have boot-camped it and be up and running in 2-3hours.

Screw that! NI needs to fix what is clearly a bug in the mac version of their software! It's not like there aren't many musicians using macs! Come on NI fix this!

i don't think this is a sensible solution for me. when performing live, i like to use guitarrig in the context of an ableton session with several mac-only vst plugins.

because the glitch is audible AND visible, they should be able to detect what exactly is making it stall. the software/hardware was $400. that's a pretty penny for having to work around their malfunctions. back when i was still pirating the GR3 software and using non-NI hardware on a much older version of OSX, i still had this problem. for some reason i assumed such a glaring bug would get fixed in later versions.

i would be satisfied with even a "we've taken note of the problem and will try to fix it in the next version" type response, but it seems like NI and the mods are totally oblivious to the mac users here.

audio sample of the pops / drops i'm getting:
    http://cyrusg.com/ext/stephfret4.mp3

watching deck2 as it was recording, i could see the count pause / stall / glitch out at each exact time that there is an audio drop.

    they occur at approx 0:32, 1:02, 1:32.
certainly interesting, but not always the case.

Yes, I hear the problem and that would piss me off aswell.

You guys need to get together and email N.I. every week with your problem.

At a guess, it could be related to memory management under mac and the method used to flush it might not be a very good method thus causing that glitch.

    pops are gone!

i just downloaded and installed the new 4.0.8 GR4 software update and immediately tried using both the pre and post Tape Decks. the pops are gone and the recording is clean and clear!

i'm running a MacBook with 10.5.8, 2 GHz Duo Core and 2 GB Ram and will soon be upgrading to Snow Leopard. i'm not anticipating any problems.

it's great to see this bug fixed, the Tape Decks are a great writing tool for getting ideas down quickly and testing out different effects/amp patches without loading Logic to try them out and record.

    thanks NI!

    mac os x 10.6.3
2.53 ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb ram

ZERO pops/clicks with the new version (4.0.8)

couldnt update through service center but this link worked fine:
    https://co.native-instruments.com/?id=updates

there are also several other improvements which i am really enjoying, like master fx and the coolplex head.

very happy. thank you NI for listening (or just noticing on your own)
