    Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing very frustrationg clipping and pops while using guitar rig 2 on my g5 dual 2ghz in logic pro 7. My audio card is a fireface 800. I seem to be having pops with battery 3 as well...

The biggest problem is it actually records my guitar tracks with the pops...

    any ideas?

    Thanks

I am NOT a Mac user, but generally 'pops' comes from too low latency in the setup (up to 20 ms is acceptable, actually, while for instance 2-3 ms will often cause problems) or too many things running in the background, like network connections or resource monitoring (power saving); these should be disabled while running GR2.

This has been a problem for me since GR1.
It really only kicks in if the session has a lot of other soft synths and other big processor heavy plugs, this is especially true if GR has a lot of time based plugs like delays or reverbs.
I had an epiphany of sorts a while back and stopped using all and every effect that GR could provide,, it seemed to me that GR is very very good at modeling amps and cabs but is comparatively poor at modeling every thing else, most especially the reverbs,, it isn't so much that they are bad,, it's more that Logic can do these things better,, for that reason i tend to use GR as as an amp and cab sim,, if i want more volume or presence i'll add another amp into the rig,, if i want more definition i'll add a complementary amp,, the plexi with a twin maybe,, if i want more distortion i'll add a distortion or fuzz before the amp,, if i want some funky nasty chorus i'll add one before the amp or after the speakers if i want a big stereo spread.
The bottom line is,, i try and keep it to a minimum just as i would my real life JTM45,,,, this way i get far fewer pops and farts,, it still isn't perfect but its about the same as when i'm using any big CPU hungry plugs all at the same time,,,

I tried increasing the I/O buffer size in my options to 1024 and it seems it got rid of the pops in Battery 3. Now I still have to test with GR2, but I,m worried about latency issues when recording guitar at that buffer size, although the fireface 800 should be able to handle it. I'll keep you posted.

    thanks for the replies guys

OK no good. The delay is just horrible. I guess I'll try to use one setting for recording (very low buffer) and one for mixing. Keep you posted

    Ian,

I've been having the exact same problems as you. We have the same G5 2Ghz/ Logic Pro setup.

I get the same problems even if all I've got is a simple loop going. I have a Focusrite Saffire (white) which is where I plug my guitar & bass into & use GR2 as a plugin across my audio track.

I'm about to try some other configs, but have been head-scratching a bit too much.

I'm amazed by the sheer quality of this product, but stumped by this issue :(

The thing that bothers me the most is that it seems random, sometiems it will pop and sometimes it won't. I just realised that if I remove ''view automation'' in my arrange window, the pops seem to stop on battery, but they continue on GR2. I'm really pissed now. This means I will have to record all my tracks before putting the plugin.
