Here's a longshot but worth a try - I made a lot of songs using Kontakt 2 within Ableton Live several years ago. I had since sold Kontakt 2, so I wasn't able to access these songs at all. Now, I have Kontakt 4, which doesn't really help because when I load those songs in Ableton it says "cannot find plugin Kontakt 2".

I'm assuming that unless it actually finds Kontakt 2 it won't load anything, but is there ANY way around this at all? I really want to work on mixing these old tracks, and unfortunately I never saved any of the stems. I'm wondering if there's a way I can try a trial of Kontakt 2 and go through my old songs and resave them as Kontakt 4, is that possible?

    Thanks!

There probably was a demo version of Kontakt 2 at the time (no idea how to get it now) but even if you got it, the demo version wouldn't allow you to save. At best, you'd be able to make a list of what instruments were used, and assuming you didn't modify them inside the project, you could manually reload them into a new instance of K4.

I'm sorry to say that I can't think of any other workaround. You totally transferred the serial number out of your name and into someone else's? The K2 license no longer appears in your NI account?

Thanks David. Yes, I transferred the license several years ago and have since changed computers. I wasn't even using standard instruments, it was all custom samples. I figured it would be tough.

Hmmm, I wonder if I rename "Kontakt 4" to "Kontakt 2" Ableton would just load it up? The plugin architectures are probably different but maybe that's worth a try?

I think this will not work in any way. So far as I know all daws sofe all in all. When you, for example, edit an instrument in Kontakt in your project in your daw, your daw saves then also your editing. You can only do what David said.
