I've been listening to the demos of the 80's drums and Modern drums. I have a few questions.

    1. Are the sounds preprocessed? I'm looking for something that sounds good out of the box. I already have SSD drums but they sound too processed for my tastes. What I like about ARD is how natural they sound.

    2. Are there presets included? I love some of the demos but do they include the preset that was used with the demos. Basically can I get the sound in the demo right away with no post processing?

    3. Can you mix and match sounds from other libraries?

    Thanks for your help.

    1. As far as I know the samples are pretty raw.

    2. Nope - you get some kits but basically you have free hands to mix them however you want.

    3. No. At least not directly from Kontakt's interface.

    Hi cyoung,

Regarding question #3, you can mix and match the sounds with the other Abbey Road drum kits by using the "Template" kits and only loading the kit pieces you want from those kits.

For example, you can load the "80s Chrome Kit Template" and load the kick drum, then load the "Modern Sparkle Kit Template" and load a snare drum, etc. Only the pieces you select will be loaded into memory.

You can also remove any of the kit pieces from the other kits as well. The template kits are just good starting points with no pieces loaded.

Just to clarify, I replied negatively to #3 because I thought he meant mixing drum products from different vendors. That indeed can't be done from Kontakt's UI, however it can be done inside your DAW...

Yes, with #3 I wanted to know if you can load samples from other Abbey Road libraries. Paul, and as EvilDragon said, you can confirm that the samples are totally raw?

    Hi cyoung,

For just about all of the Abbey Road libraries, there are both "raw" samples that have not been processed after the recording chain, as well as additional specialty samples which have gone through a series of hardware units during the recording. You can download the manuals from the NI website for both the 80s Drums and the Modern Drums you mentioned to read about these additional samples (as well as for the 60s and 70s Drums).

For the 60s, 70s and 80s Drums, many of the drums were also recorded to tape and then sampled from the tape recording to get an authentic tape saturation from recordings of those time periods.
