I wonder if the other way around will also happen: that people sell their unneeded F1 because they are only interested in TP2.5 ... :)

I couldn't care less about NI's sales. I care about myself as a customer and I am not alone in the way I am seeing the F1 sale. The "you could probably do even better with sales, if you package the F1 without software" sale pitch is to make is look more attractive to possibly anyone from NI who is reading, because that is what they are interested in.

And you are right. I will probably have to fire up my Ebay account and will sell the licenses. I do also want the F1. I actually want two of them, because I can't image having just one will be effective with an S4. So I'll have two licenses to sell.

however, while with S2 and S4 you get the Pro version, with X1 you "only" get the LE version.

but i like this version very much.. very useful for me!

    Sorry for the late question.

I just bought the F1 today. Does it come with a Traktor 2.5 or it just comes with a key and you have to download Traktor 2.5 itself?

My apologies for a stupid question. I have googled it but nothing comes up except that the F1 comes with Traktor 2.5

Feel free to abuse me if this question has beed asked before. Thanks again.

to be honest...yes...i would have been happy with just the hardware...but heres the question...as with their other products...if they do a f1 price drop by even 50 USD or euros one year down the line (like they have with their other controllers) would people still complain about getting TP for free?

on the other hand since you mentioned wanting two...so did i...what would have been useful is for them to give a discount on buying a pair...i'm sure some other retailer might think up this like they do with cdj decks

for now i have an extra license as well...not sure yet whether ill install it on my desktop or sell it :p

From what I've read, you can't sell the license apart from the F1 it was packaged with. Not sure if that is true though.

My whole gripe is NI shifting their "platform" away from the software in an attempt to sell more hardware. I think that is a fundamental mistake. There needs to be an air of exclusivity with something a professional company makes and NI has taken that away from the software completely. The hardware doesn't have it really either IMHO, other than the tight integration with the software, which I can almost accept. I still think, the price of the software needs to be more "exclusive". But that is just me.

I now have an F1 and I must say, NI did do a very good job making it. They have also said they are going to open up the midi commands to do more with the Mix Decks, so I guess, the path NI is taking is acceptable now. I hope they follow up on their words about now starting an attack on improving the Controller Manager. That would be awesome.

It's not a mistake, people pirate this software by the truckload, theres already 2.5 up on sites and 2.5.1 will probably follow.

This way if you want to use the Remix decks to their full capabilities you have to buy a F1, will probably buy a X1 and then might buy a NI sound card or scratch upgrade.

I say fair enough what they've done, they have to protect their I.P. somehow.

The only thing that annoys me about the Remix decks is I believe they should've opened it up to Maschine as well. But we all have varying degrees of what we want this software to be.

Yeah, well. Lowering the price and flooding the market with (possibly) hardware locked licenses isn't really going to combat piracy. Even if the software would cost $5, there would still be a "truckload" of people posting it for others to download.

My view is, if someone wants to DJ at any level and is serious about it, they should buy the software and they must buy hardware, any hardware. What will sell more hardware is its quality, which NI has no real big problems with, but not because it has a free license with it. So what does lowering the price of the software and also packaging the software with all the hardware really do for anyone? I understand packing licenses with stand alone controllers like the S2 and S4 and I can almost understand it with the sound cards, but peripheral controllers like the X1 and F1? They just don't need a license really, because practically everyone who is going to buy the F1 will have a Traktor license. Who here bought an F1 and didn't have a Traktor license already?

Actually, this argument doesn't matter anymore. The deed is done. I also have an F1 and am happy with it. I just have a Traktor license now collecting dust and I can't sell it (AFAIK).
