i am consistently running into the same issue when using my pro-53 plugin in logic pro 7. it is also happening with absynth.

the issue is this: when i record automation changes for the parameters of the pro-53, once i press "stop", CERTAIN knobs and sliders do not return back to the position they were in at the start of the song. thus, when i press "play", the sound very different from how i recorded it. i have found that i can circumvent this by switching to another patch, then back to the original one i was using. however, this is pretty inconvenient, as i have to do it each time i press "stop".

i have read several posts on the internet about a similar issue with logic resetting the mod-wheel, however i don't think that's what's going on here as i have that setting turned off in my logic prefs, and the issue is affecting parameters other than the modwheel.

can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    much thanks

There is a setting in Logic somewhere to fix this, I will have a look and get back to you.

    Hi,

Unfortunately I only have Logic 8 on this machine and this behavior seems to have changed and it just works by default.

I seem to remember that there is some setting in the preferences for automation in Logic 7 that needs to be set for this to work, it may be called "Sample Accurate Automation" but I am not sure. I will be back to a Logic 7 machine on Sunday I can have a look then if you have not sorted it by then.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I have checked this with a default Logic 7 setup and it works fine for me.

Is your clip starting at bar 1?

Also are you using Touch, Latch or write to record automation?

The Sample Accurate Automation setting is in the Audio->Preferences dialog, pull it down and set it to include plug-in parameters, I didn't have to do this to get Pro-53 automation working in Logic 7 but I seem to remember it is best to have it on, it does use more cpu though.

Also you mention certain knobs not working, can you give me an example?

    Cheers

Thank you for checking up on that :)

Unfortunately, the sample accurate automation setting didn't effect my issue.
It occurs whether in touch, latch, or write mode (though i typically use latch).
The clip is starting at bar one.

I can see for sure that knobs such as "frq a" and "b" in the modwheel section don't reset at the start of the song. I also just noticed their automation data not playing back at all, something I didn't see originally.

What's going on is that when I when play the clip after initially recording it, the sound is reduced to some quiet clicks and warbles. And this kind of sound is nowhere to be found in the recorded version of my clip. When I re-select the patch, it goes back to how it should be. I haven't noticed knobs changing in a way that would be responsible for this sound-shift, but I continue to experiment attentively.

Do you have any idea what's going on? It's a real obstacle!

    Thanks again

    Hi,

I have always found starting the song at bar 1 in Logic 7 can cause strange issues like missing notes and automation issues.

Can you try starting your song at bar 5 and see how that goes, also record with a pre-count to see if that helps.

The next thing after trying that is to backup your preferences files for Logic and then trash them then try again to see if something there is causing problems.

    Cheers

i tried both starting my clip from after the 5th measure, and trashing the prefs file -- neither seem to help. looking closer, i see that logic is resetting the knobs for certain functions, like those in the filter section, either to their minimum value or some odd yet consistent level.

one thing i noticed is that the positions these knobs are being reset to seems to correspond with other patches in the pro-53. for example, if i press stop while recording in "butterfish", it will reset the ASDR knobs of the filter to the positions they would have in "super sync lead".

i have no idea why this is happening. any more ideas? i appreciate your help so much.

    Hi Again,

    Sorry for the delay.

I have done some tests automating the adsr on the filter and it all just works perfectly for me.

I am at a bit of a loss to why you are having problems.

You could try posting on the forum at http://logicprohelp.com there are some real Logic experts there that may be able to shed some light on this.

    Cheers
