For some reason, I can't seem to get Reaktor 4 to read my MIDI keyboard - a Midiman Keystation 49. When I try to set my MIDI inputs in Reaktor when using OS X, all I get is "the spinning rainbow UNIX wheel of death," and the program goes nowhere. Oddly, the keyboard works perfectly in OS 9. What gives? I called NI support and was basically told to upgrade my version of Reaktor 4, which I did - problem still there.

Anyone? I really can't figure this out and the problem renders R4 useless in OS X.

Other than 'midiman's drivers suck', there's not much I can say to you. Just make sure you upgraded everything properly I suppose. Hopefully someone else with a similar setup will chime in.

Hrm. Well, granted, I use an older Midiman controller that has always been a pain in the ass. What MIDI controllers have been known to work well with R4 in OS X?

I dunno if this is any help, but I use a midiman midisport 2x2 USB interface and had a similar problem on OSX. Have you tried the midiman website (miniman.com), you can download upgraded drivers from the site that allow older equipment to work in OSX.

Anything by Evolution kicks ass in X. It's kinda cheaply made (like MIDIman's stuff), but then again, its cheap.

Both my MK-361 (61-key keyboard w/ 16 knobs), and UC-16 (16 knob controller) work perfectly in OS X and with Reaktor 4 WITHOUT installing any drivers whatsoever. CoreMIDI handles everything. Its great. The keyboard runs about 200 at jandr.com if I recall correctly.

They also plug right in via USB (they have regular midi ports as well of course), so you do not need a midi interface. If you use them via USB, you do not need a power adapter either, since they are powered via the USB port. Very convienient.

Cool, I'll have to check this out. I was thinking that it's high time I replaced my MIDI controller anyway. Thanks for the help!

I have Evolution 5 octaves with knobs and Novation ReMote 25, both work very well (with a PC), ReMote is of course the most flexible, and has the faders (which I prefer over knobs, I can slide three at the same time - not possible with knobs unless you use you feet ;-). I still have Quattro box and I have to agree, the drivers were bad. The promise was 4 input, well, not in Sonar, I was waiting for the update for... 2 years? Meanwhile I got RME Multiface, which I would buy again and again and again (if you wuld steal mine).

i have an edirol pcr-30 which has been rock solid. has a pretty nice feel to it as well, considering it's price. the only complaint i have is that the knobs all have a sticking point half way... presumably good if you are using them as pan pots.

on top of it just performing well and being able to do "unusual" things like send sysex, edirol's tech support is amazing. immediate and informative answers to every question i've thrown them.

btw, the original models had a 1:3 ratio on the knobs/faders, but that has been updated to a 1:1 and you can upgrade yours if you have an old one.

I have a really cheap controller keyboard and it works great (MIDIPlus 61)! I was under the impression that anything MIDIMAN just wasn't compatible with Reaktor, not necessarily anything that was low-cost. All you fancy Reaktor users with your Mac computers - a more expensive machine than my lovely PC but less problems for me!!
