    Hi all,

A semi-newbie here, so please excuse if this question is naive. I've been having some major trouble - crashes - with a current DP 7.1.2 project that uses a number of VI's as plugins (Motu MachFive, MX4, Komplete 6). It got so bad I had to create a new user account, which I thought solved whatever the problem(s) was/were. Alas, not so. Until this afternoon things were running normally within DP and it was stable until I tried adding a 3rd and 4th instrument to a single instantiation of K4. I started to get warnings that I was using too much memory within K4 and then it crashed. Ironically it seemed to screw up an instance of Motu's MachFive? Now that won't run.

I was trouble shooting earlier in the week and had things working well with just Motu stuff and gradually starting adding NI items into my component folder. I worked up to having all parts of Komplete available but I'm wondering if I'm just going to have to deactivate/not use K4 or the other parts of Komplete and stick with Motu stuff (but I want the tunings and some of the sounds and/or samples in K4 and definitely Absynth 5).

Some how with 16 GB of RAM I don't think I should be limited to loading 4 instruments into 1 instantiation of K4! Any ideas about what's going on here? Yes, I was loading other instruments to audition them, but I purged the samples before closing the instrument in the K4 window and trying and loading a replacement instrument. Even assuming I didn't really purge the samples that might add up to 8 or so instruments and that doesn't seem like a lot. Is the warning just a sign of something else going wrong elsewhere (e.g. corruption)?

Are people having issues with DP7 and K4 or Komplete 6?

My system is a late 2008 2x2.8 Quad-core Intel Xeon running 10.5.8 with 16BG RAM.

Happy to supply an additional info if it's needed. You can also email me offlist at joel_friedman@earthlink.net.

    Best,

    Joel

I am using a similar system -- 2008 8-core Mac Pro (2.8GHz) running 10.6.4 and DP7. I don't know of any known issues with Kontakt 4 or Komplete 6 that would be causing regular crashes. It might be interesting to look at a crashlog from one of your crashes to get an idea of what might be causing them (sometimes there is a clue in there, sometimes not). My first guess would be routine disk maintenance stuff like repairing permissions, OnyX, and DiskWarrior, to clear out any potential corruption.

    David,

How nice to hear from you! I remember you from the motu-mac list. Yeah, I don't get it either. I have run DW etc. and at 1st I was pretty sure it was either some corrupted audio or a motu issue - probably M5 (I saw it listed in some of the early crash logs) - but then... Briefly it showed up 1st as my total inability to create/use/navigate through the chunks window. Any use led to a quick crash. I created a new user account in the attempt to get away from whatever "voodoo" may have been in my original admin account.

Once I started afresh I opened a brand new empty DP file in Motu safe mode and gradually added various items in (Apple AU, then NI). All seemed fine. I could use chunks freely (I'm doing a film score so I really need them), and I added a number of VI's to a v-rack - again without problem. Suddenly yesterday afternoon I got the warning of how my 4 instruments loaded into K4 were using up my memory. Next thing I know I'm crashing and my M5 performance is gone (DP file size drops in half because of this). I'm flying blind here, just guessing that something weird was going on with K4 and that maybe I need to take it out to see what happens. For all I know it could be M5. I've been on the phone with Motu about various things all last week and thought I was free and clear.

Just trying to isolate what might be going on (according to the service center I am up-to-date on all NI stuff).

So, 2 short questions that should be easy to answer:
1.4 instruments should in no way bring down K4 (even if I have a number of other VI's running - I'm not getting any issues with audio/processor performance or dropped samples beforehand).
    2. If I'm "running out of memory" and trying put various instruments does hitting the purge sample button indeed clear the apps memory or does still stuff still accumulate in there?

    bang head...bang head...

    Joel
