I am new to using these DJ products, but I watch loads of Djs.... My main problem is the sound, Whenever I try to play a song It comes out wack and messed up, I just cant find out why! I am getting extremely frustrated and I cant get the headphones to work either (I bought a numark TOTAL CONTROL mixing board) Hopefully someone can help . . .

In order to use the headphone previewing, your soundcard need to be multi-channel and have the appropriate connections. Since the Total Control doesn't include a soundcard, you obviously have one on your computer, but it may not be the most appropriate card for the job.

I would recommend something out of this list:

    http://www.djstore.com/group/soundcards.htm

What you need to look for are:

    - At least 2 stereo outputs: one for the main mix , the other for headphone.

Connectors may vary (RCA, jack), but I would recommend one that has a dedicated headphone connector AND hardware volume control (so you can easely adjust the level without having to reach for the mouse)

    - If you are using a PC, the card must have ASIO drivers, which are specially made to provide low latency and good performances for audio applications.

MACs do not have ASIO, but use a similar type of driver.

    - Check the card manufacturer's web site to be sure your operating system is supported ( some are not yet supported under Windows 7 for example, but updates are on the way).

Anything else you want to know, ask away :D

Alright, I'll try to break it down.

Your computer's soundcard ( the device that allow the computer to send audio to your speakers) will not work correctly with Traktor. it is good enough for games and movies , but not this kind of program that demands a lot more out of your computer.

You will need to purchase one that was designed for this sort of application and that has the appropriate connectors to use Traktor to its full potential.
